Where Is It?
Sepilok Rehabilitation Centre is in a place called Sepilok which is in the Sabah District of Borneo. We had this trip included as part of a three day excursion so all our travel was arranged for us. I think most people that visit this centre do it on some kind of excursion so travel arrangements shouldn't really be a problem
About ... ...the Kabil Sepilok Forest Reserve. This land is protected and there are between 60 and 80 orang-utans which live wildly and free within the reserve.
The Rehabilitation Centre was set up to rehabilitate orphaned and injured orang-utans. The Centre provides medical care for orang-utans as well as rehabilitating them back into the wild where they belong. People in Malaysia can keep orang-utans as pets which is illegal and often results in the young ...

Advantages: interesting Disadvantages: packed with tourists
Sepilok is located about 30 minutes from Sandakan, a town in the Malaysian state of Sabah, on the island of Borneo. The easiest way to reach it is by flying to Sandakan, which has connections with Kuala Lumpur, Kota Kinabalu and the near future plans to connect it to Australia will probably be put into action. From the town the best way to get put there is by hire car or by taxi, which would cost in the region of £5.00. The cheapest way to go is ... ...they leave regularly from the stand in town. Unfortunately few go directly to the centre and therefore you are forced to walk the last 2.5km from the main road.
Upon arrival at the centre you must pay the 30RM entrance few plus a 10RM fee for your camera (about £1 = 6.4RM). The park is open from 9-12 and 2-4 and only varies its opening times very slightly throughout the week. Inside the centre there are a few things to do but not a great deal: a ...

...attractions of KK is Mount Kinabalu which is situated in Kinabalu Park. Kinabalu Park is on the northern end of Borneo. Trips were offered from our hotel and the price was £30 per person and that included the 2 and a half hour coach trip from our hotel and also entrance into Kinabalu Park. In Kinabalu Park, there is Mount Kinabalu which stands at 4, 095 metres making it the highest mountain between the Himalayas and New Guinea. In the surrounding grounds are many species of flora and fauna. Kinabalu Park is also famous for its 'pouring hot springs' which you are able to bathe in. Unfortunately, we never got round to doing this trip as we ran out of time.
SepilokRehabilitationCentreSepilokRehabilitationCentre is again in the North of Sabah. It was founded in 1964 and is used to rehabilitate orphan orang-utans. Sepilok is 43sp km...

...I went to Borneo is October 2006 and while I was there, I took part in a three day excursion in which we visited the SepilokRehabilitationCentre, Turtle Island and a local town in Malaysia.
Here I will review the Turtle Island Trip
About Turtle Island
Turtle Island is a conservation project for the beautiful Green Turtles. Basically this is a very remote island on which the Green Turtle lay their eggs all year round. People are only allowed to visit this island on organised trips and only a certain amount of people are allowed on the island at any one time to ensure the turtles are not disturbed by too much human activity.
There are 2 large 'hatcheries' in which the turtle eggs are buried to allow them time to hatch. Once the green turtle lays her eggs in the beach, the keepers remove them from their natural nest...

Advantages: Interesting. The Orang Utan are marvellous. Disadvantages: High Cost of Travel
...Orang Utan RehabilitationCentre. This is the biggest rehabilitationcentre for Orang Utan- Borneo's Man of the Forest- in the world and is a must see spot if you are visiting Sabah. The Orang Utan are fed twice daily at 10.OO am and again at 3.00 pm and the sanctauary is a mere 5 minutes walk from Sepilok Nature Resort.
You can also go jungle trekking and see the diversity of trees, climbing plants, ferns and other flora and fauna. If you are lucky you might also just see some gibbons, Orang Utans or snakes. There are a wide range of bird species as well found on and beneath the different canopies oftrees.
The Resort itself is a pleasant place which has been sensitively designed. There are timber chalets and a biggish centre which houses a restaurant, lounge, covered terraces and sundeck overlooking a natural lake....
