A VERY BAD CHOICE UNLESS FOR LOCATION
Advantages: centrally located, good A/C system Disadvantages: ageing, horrible and tasteless decoration, rude staff, very small rooms/bathrooms
...easy task to describe the HOTEL PRAG. the buiding in itself is a very nice example of 1930's modernism, but what's inside seems to be stuck and deeply asleep in the mid 1970's. it definitely seems that nobody did anything at all in the hotel after that period. 70's furniture in dark brown often accompanied by awfully tasteless pig-pink details and 70's wall decoration. no further refurbishment made thereafter. small beds, especially short (strangely ... ...good thing anyway is the hotel location, halfway, uphill between train and bus station and city center; also to be appreciated the perfectly working A/C system, in a hot belgrade june. the awful part comes, beside the decoration (acceptable only by 1970's enthusiasts -which i am not-) is the service. it varies from cold/indifferent/unfriendly (reception) to definitely hostile (bar-restaurant-breakfast room). once had even to argue with a waitress ...

Don't Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the STARI HARST
Advantages: I'm not there now Disadvantages: Pretty much everything
...speed.
We booked the Motel Stari Hrast because we reckoned we would arrive there around 6pm which would give us plenty of time to freshen up and grab a bite to eat etc. In fact, one of the attractions of this hotel was its 'internationally renowned' restaurant. I booked it through booking.com and it didn't look too bad, I even checked the guest reviews but most weren't in English. Anyway, it seemed OK and at 45 euros with breakfast, the price sounded ... ...show how wrong you can be.
Firstly, we didn't arrive at 6pm. Thanks to the grossly lethargic officials at the Bulgaria/Serbia border (mostly the Serbian side) we didn't arrive until nearer 8pm - it took three hours to pass through and there were only about twenty vehicles in front of us when we arrived. Zod knows what the problem was as they weren't searching anybody to any great extent. So by the time we got there,we were pretty whacked and keen ...

HOTEL GALLERIA, SUBOTICA - certainly no rogue's galleria
Advantages: Amazing value, first class hotel Disadvantages: Absolutely none
...a quick search for a hotel threw up a wide variety of options but when we came across the Hotel galleria, it really was no contest.
Although the hotel is in the centre of town, it's really easy to find. It's just a couple of turns off the main drag and it's well signposted. Parking is free in an underground car park which is always a bonus.
The hotel is a modern building but sits well amongst its surroundings and blends in nicely. It's a six storey ... ...say that everything about the hotel was spic-n-span and in mint condition. I think the hotel was only completed in the last few years so I suppose it should've been in good nick. interestingly, although this is a new build, the decor was rather old-fashioned in style.
The room was not really like a hotel room - it didn't have that anonymous and bland feel that you usually get. The furniture and furnishings were rich and luxurious yet homely. We ...

A touch of Kosovar Klass
Advantages: Friendly staff; good rooms; free wireless internet Disadvantages: Breakfast
...with assured me that the hotel was a good one and there, at least, I'd be perfectly comfortable.
Arriving at night I didn't quite appreciate how much the hotel stuck out like a sore thumb. Situated on a slight rise, just across the road from the Swiss Embassy, this bright blue building strikes you as a slight oddity in the surrounding greyness. But it's a welcome splash of colour.
Inside the marbled floor and wood panelling of the reception and ... ...wireless internet connection throughout the hotel (which is free to use). An absolute boon meaning I could chat on Skype to home without any cost worries for the connection or the call.
The breakfast, unfortunately, wasn't quite up to the standard of other aspects, and quite often I skipped it in favour of some pastries from the bakery just round the corner from our office. The selection of meats and cheeses were just a little uninspired.
On the ...

Great spot to people-watch
Advantages: Good food, espresso Disadvantages: Prices
I haven't stayed here, so I can't rate the rooms. However, this is an institution in Belgrade for locals (who obviously aren't staying here!) so it's worth mentioning. They have one of the most elegant and unique coffee and pastry shops in the city, and so it's well worth walking up here (not 5 minutes from the main shopping/pedestrian area) for a cake and coffee.
The outdoor area is great when it's set up, with the typical Serbian style outdoor-cafe ... ...the right non-smoking. A great place to wait out rain showers with fantastic service and a picture-menu with mouth-watering (to look at, and then to eat!) food, mostly cakes.
I don't profess to know what the rooms are like for sure, but I have heard that they're one of the nicer (and more overpriced) in the city's central area. ...
