I took my son to see Amanda Holden in Thoroughly Modern Millie at the Shaftesbury in February. Unfortunately, she was ill and the understudy stepped into her shoes - literally! The performance was good and the atmosphere was exciting for an 'out of towner' used to more rural pleasures! We booked Circle seats through www.Lastminute.com - 20 pounds each - not bad, I thought - and collected our tickets from the Box Office one hour before the performance. With great anticipation we went upstairs to our seats. The Royal Circle, where we were sitting, are the 'posh' seats and usually cost up to 40 - 45 pounds each. I'm glad that I did not pay that much for them. Most of the audience were put into one side of the circle even though there were spare seats towards the back across the aisle. The little leg room there was did spoil the comfort of enjoying the show. I am only 5 feet 2 and I was scunched-up. My son, who is a lot taller than me, and other taller men, in particular, were in agnony and spent most of the first half trying to get comfortable - an impossible task! At the interval, we and a few other members of the audience moved across the aisle for a more comfortable second half. So if you do go book seats in the stalls - the price is the same and don't suffer as we did. Overall, we still enjoyed the show and would go the the Shaftesbury again. There was a good atmosphere, pleasant staff, bars on each floor, toilet facilities, and plenty of brocade and glitter. It is easy to get to via the Tube or taxi.

Advantages: Quite funny, light hearted, entertaining, everyone seemed to enjoy it Disadvantages: The seats (room), may offend those it pokes fun at, if easily offended, transport links
