This mosque, one of the largest mosque in the world, is situed in Islamabad, capital of Pakistan, was built in 1976 with the help of Saudi Arabia (costing around US$120 Millions) in the memories of late King Shah Faisal of Saudi Arabia. The architecture of the mosque is very unique (designed by a turkish architecture, who won it against other 43 proposals), having an area of about 5000 square meters (which can hold approximately 8000 people at atime for the prayers) and still does not have any pillars to support its structure. The design of the mosque is such that all the weight distribution is on the walls, and not in the centre of the roof (A design innovation). This design has made this mosque one of unique entities, and makes it worh seeing. After marriage I went along with my wife to this mosque and took pictures, which are magnificient and still remind us of our golden days in the background of this magnificient mosque. The interior of the mosque is decorated by the famous Pskistani artist Sadqain. It is no doubt the focal point and icon of the Islamabad in particular and of Pakistan in general. It is worth seeinng and highly recommended for unique building lovers.
