You need a photo next to this place!
Advantages: Great place to visit, looks great, day or night, low price Disadvantages: Often Busy, Long waits
...with a friend, and the Oriental Pearl Tower is certainly an attraction I am glad I didn't miss. The Oriental Pearl Tower is a TV tower which is a major advertising point for the skyscraper filled city, it has a unique design, is one of the world’s tallest towers and is certainly an alluring jewel against the often foggy backgrounds.
The oriental Pearl Tower does not possess a typical plain TV tower look. Instead it has a beautifully designed and ... ...night when it is lit by a fascinating variety of colours, it stands out from the other structures of the Pudong district.
Upon arriving at the tower, approaching the gates is certainly a difficult experience because of all the tourists (including yourself) with their heads in the air, admiring the picturesque tower above them. This is obviously a great photo opportunity, but there are better ones yet to come! For after you have climbed the stairs ...

You're going to Shanghai? Must-visit Yu Yuan!
Advantages: beautiful traditional chinese garden, perfect Disadvantages: can get touristy sometimes
This garden will take your breath away. It transport you back to the 400 years ago, into the Ming dynasty. Walk through the windy path and pretend you are some rich man or respectable woman back in the days.
Getting there?
Easy peasy. I walked there, and although it was very hot, it was not hard to find. I think certain buses go to the garden from nanjing road.
Ticket price?
Reasonable. Expensive compared to other attractions, but DEFINITELY ... ...1.30 to 2pm and the garden was gorgeously quiet; around 3pm the tours started and I seek refuge in the quietest corners of the rock mountains).
In sum?
Must-go in Shanghai. It is really hard to escape from the skyscrapers, but there is Yu Yuan as a sanctuary in the middle of the city. Personally, I think this garden is even better than the ones in Suzhou (which is specifically famous for its gardens) ...

Advantages: A GIANT buddha!! Craved out of a GIANT PIECE OF JADE! Disadvantages: ouch, double the entrance fees!
...summer with my boyfriend, and Jade Buddha temple is in the list of top attractions in Shanghai. Hopefully, this is a nice and easy guide to you.
Getting there and away?
We took the taxi from the train station and back. Just make sure you don't fall for the taxi drivers waiting for you outsdie the train station. They charge you much extra. It is better to flag down a taxi who will use the meter.
Temple itself?
You can't miss it (it IS a temple ... ...give you entry for the jade buddha. That costs additionally.
Inside, there is quite a lot to see, and very quiet and peaceful. There is a giant gold buddha inside. To get to the jade buddha, buy another ticket over to the right of the entrance. The jade buddha itself is remarkable, although you have to see it across the hall (you can't get upclose), therefore the size is a little lost on me. However, if you really think about the relative size of ...
