BEST New Years Ever

Advantages: English speaking staff, Amazing view from the room, more than helpful room service
Disadvantages: We could hear the people partying next door.

This has to be hands down one of the nicer hotels I stayed in while living in China. The staff was over friendly, most of them spoke English rather well. The way the hotel is constructed it almost gives off inside and out gives off a feeling of 5star or high class. I also had a chance to use the weight room which reminded me of Gold Gym back in the states. The hotel also hosted an amazing well organized New Years Eve party with great music, top notch ...

A dirty piece of colonial history.

Advantages: Steeped in colonial history
Disadvantages: dirty and smelly

The best thing about the Peace hotel (in fact the only thing going for it) is its location. It is right across the street from the Bund (Shanghai's river front) and on Nanjing Road (the pedestrian shopping street). And if you get tired of Chinese food then you can get a great deep-pan pizza at Gino's cafe on the same block.
