So there we were, in Jakarta for a couple of days. It was our first time in Indonesia and I had no idea where to stay. Normally I would aim for a Sheraton or a Hilton - not Intercontinental any more since their loyalty programme refused to reward my 100+ nights of loyalty and didn't care. However, we recently had very good stays at Shangri Las in Singapore and Hong Kong and I was able to get a good rate at the ShangriLa Jakarta, so we decided to give it a try.
ARRIVAL
The hotel is located at the top of the "golden triangle" business district of Jakarta, a short drive from several shopping areas.

Makati Shangri-la is one of the most popular hotels in Metro Manila and is often chosen as the preferred residence of most foreign dignitaries and executives visiting the country. The moment you step into the lobby, you could already feel why it is given a five-star status. The lobby itself is impressive with its spiral staircase and huge chandelier hanging on top of a beautifully-designed floral centerpiece. However, some may find it a bit imposing. As to the service, it is prompt, impeccable and very professional although somehow I long for the more intimate service that I get from hotels of a lesser caliber.

We stayed at this 5 star deluxe hotel for a week in October. We have stayed in a Shangri-Lahotel before (in Penang, Malaysia) so knew beforehand it was going to be an excellent hotel. The hotel opened in July 2003 ? so everything inside was brand new. It is about 200 metres tall and has 43 storeys. we booked this hotel as part of a package. It cost £100 a night for a premier room. We dont normally spend so much, however it was our first year wedding anniversary .
