Stayed in the Shangri- la twice in Nov 2005 as stop overs going to and from Australia, with three children 9,4and 1. On the way over we stayed just for one night and a day before flying on. Arriving at hotel very tired and bedraggled after long flight with small children. Greeted by a beautiful dressed lady waiting to open taxi door (arranged by hotel) and escort us straight to our rooms (mum and Sister with me and kids). We stayed in the Garden wing which had wonderful large rooms with large double beds and huge bathroom with lots of nice smellies and free gifts. Had a good nights sleep and woke the next day to great views on the balcony of the large swimming pool. The Shangri-la has a choice of a few resturant, but as we had the kids it restricted us to 'The Line' which was great. The Line is a great big buffet for what ever meal. The choice is incredible from english to sushi, curry to italian and you can have a taste of all it and as much as you like. The children loved the deserts and were soon on first name basis with the deserts chef. Anyway we left the Shangri-la after a late check out feeling refreshed and ready for the next leg of our joureny down to oz. On our return joureny were booked to stay for 3 nights again in the Garden wing, but due to a mix up with the hotel taxi picking us up at the airport (didn't show up) We were up grade to the valley wing (wow).A taxi did arrive final at the airport and all arranged and paid for by the hotel. The Valley wing has its own entrance (away from the main entrance ) Where guest are greeted and offered free refreshment (champagne and nibbles or what ever you fancy) while you can listen to alittle light music The rooms in my opinoin are not much better than the garden wing and you don't get a balcony, but you do get your own personalized stationary and orchard.( My youngest recived a teddy bear in Shangri-la uniform in her cot ) We had a great 3 night stay and the children enjoyed the pool the lifeguards were very vigilent and inquired on their abilities to swim. Advantages: Beautiful hotel, really friendly staff Disadvantages: Long walk to the shops
We stayed at the Shangri La hotel for 3 nights in March 2006. I travelled in a party of 5 adults and we shared 2 rooms. We stopped over on our way to Australia as part of a 2 month holiday and we all agreed this was the nicest hotel we stayed in. The hotel was beautiful, set in gardens and has a very grand appearance, with a really nice reception area and bar, and you would expect in Singapore it is very clean. The rooms were really nice with fresh ... ...a large pool with sun loungers which is great as it was very humid in Singapore.
The restaurants in the hotel were mixed, we went to the Chinese restaurant on the first night which was nice, but the other restaurants are mainly seafood so the reception staff were really helpful and recommended restaurants and booked taxis for us.
The main shopping area is about a 20 min walk, which doesnt sound far but in the humidiity feels like miles, so get ...

Advantages: Clean, multi cultural Disadvantages: Humid
We had the pleasure of taking our annual holiday last year to Singapore.
We stayed at the Shangri-Lahotel, which is a really lovely hotel, and I will surely write an op on this shortly.
For the most part, Singapore is a clean and sterile city. There are beautiful, modern buildings throughout the city. There are some semi-exotic areas with interesting temples and buildings such as Little India on Serangoon Road, Chinatown near the Elgin Bridge, the Muslim Quarter near Arab Street, and a must see for most travelers, the Raffles Hotel Arcade Complex.
A friend of ours, told us if we ever made it to Singapore, we must go inside to relax and enjoy a Singapore Sling in Raffles. A Singapore Sling is a concoction of gin, cherry herring, cointreau, benedictine, pineapple, lime juice, and angostura bitters. They tasted good, were ...
Advantages: On the Beach, Nice Rooms, Great Cocktails Disadvantages: Dirty Beach, Chaotic Restaurant
So half way into our week in Singapore and the time had come to leave the city central Meridien, Orchard Road and move out to Sentosa Island and The Beach!
When I was looking for hotels in Singapore, I noticed the ShangriLa claiming to be "The only beach front hotel in Singapore". That sounded promising and that's why we were booked there for four nights. Of course, I failed to ask myself why there are no other beach front hotels. I also failed to check the truth of this claim, or I might have found the other beach hotel on Sentosa!
GETTING THERE - AND SENTOSA ISLAND
Singapore of course is not a large place - it is a "city state" meaning the country borders don't extend much beyond the city. So, it doesn't take very long to get to the hotel, either from the airport or downtown - about half an hour.
The island of Sentosa ...
