Stayed in the Shangri- la twice in Nov 2005 as stop overs going to and from Australia, with three children 9,4and 1. On the way over we stayed just for one night and a day before flying on. ...large swimming pool. The Shangri-la has a choice of a few resturant, but as we had the kids it restricted us to 'The Line' which was great. The Line is a great big buffet for what ever meal. The choice is incredible from english to sushi, curry to italian and you can have a taste of all it and as much as you like. The children loved the deserts and were soon on first name basis with the deserts chef. Anyway we left the Shangri-la after a late check ... ...recived a teddy bear in Shangri-la uniform in her cot ) We had a great 3 night stay and the children enjoyed the pool the lifeguards were very vigilent and inquired on their abilities to swim. All the staff were execpentional and would bend over backwards to help as we discovered when we lost my daughters buggy in the back of a taxi . The hotel itself was impressive and received a lot of ohhs and aahhs from my 4 yr old daughter who agreed that it ...

Advantages: Beautiful hotel, really friendly staff Disadvantages: Long walk to the shops
We stayed at the Shangri La hotel for 3 nights in March 2006. I travelled in a party of 5 adults and we shared 2 rooms. We stopped over on our way to Australia as part of a 2 month holiday and we all agreed this was the nicest hotel we stayed in. The hotel was beautiful, set in gardens and has a very grand appearance, with a really nice reception area and bar, and you would expect in Singapore it is very clean. The rooms were really nice with fresh ... ...a large pool with sun loungers which is great as it was very humid in Singapore.
The restaurants in the hotel were mixed, we went to the Chinese restaurant on the first night which was nice, but the other restaurants are mainly seafood so the reception staff were really helpful and recommended restaurants and booked taxis for us.
The main shopping area is about a 20 min walk, which doesnt sound far but in the humidiity feels like miles, so get ...

...So half way into our week in Singapore and the time had come to leave the city central Meridien, Orchard Road and move out to Sentosa Island and The Beach!
When I was looking for hotels in Singapore, I noticed the ShangriLa claiming to be "The only beach front hotel in Singapore". That sounded promising and that's why we were booked there for four nights. Of course, I failed to ask myself why there are no other beach front hotels. I also failed to check the truth of this claim, or I might have found the other beach hotel on Sentosa!
GETTING THERE - AND SENTOSA ISLAND
Singapore of course is not a large place - it is a "city state" meaning the country borders don't extend much beyond the city. So, it doesn't take very long to get to the hotel, either from the airport or downtown - about half an hour.
The island of Sentosa...

...We had the pleasure of taking our annual holiday last year to Singapore.
We stayed at the Shangri-Lahotel, which is a really lovely hotel, and I will surely write an op on this shortly.
For the most part, Singapore is a clean and sterile city. There are beautiful, modern buildings throughout the city. There are some semi-exotic areas with interesting temples and buildings such as Little India on Serangoon Road, Chinatown near the Elgin Bridge, the Muslim Quarter near Arab Street, and a must see for most travelers, the Raffles Hotel Arcade Complex.
A friend of ours, told us if we ever made it to Singapore, we must go inside to relax and enjoy a Singapore Sling in Raffles. A Singapore Sling is a concoction of gin, cherry herring, cointreau, benedictine, pineapple, lime juice, and angostura bitters. They tasted good, were...

...So there we were, in Jakarta for a couple of days. It was our first time in Indonesia and I had no idea where to stay. Normally I would aim for a Sheraton or a Hilton - not Intercontinental any more since their loyalty programme refused to reward my 100+ nights of loyalty and didn't care. However, we recently had very good stays at Shangri Las in Singapore and Hong Kong and I was able to get a good rate at the ShangriLa Jakarta, so we decided to give it a try.
ARRIVAL
The hotel is located at the top of the "golden triangle" business district of Jakarta, a short drive from several shopping areas.
We took a taxi from the airport, which was comfortable and inexpensive. Eventually we turned off the highway into a side road then into the hotel grounds. Security was very tight - armed security guards checked the boot/trunk, under...
