We arrived on our first day in Sydney and were really impressed with the hotel and its location looking out onto the Opera House and Bridge. i would recommend paying the extra as it was great waking up to the view every morning. The location is ideal for getting to the Circular Quay and all the really nice restaurants & bars. It is only a 5 minute walk so you dont need to take a taxi. The main shopping area is only a 10 - 15 minute walk away.

The service we received was very good for example helping book trips and finding an emergency dentist. The food was very nice and there is a good bar on the top floor which looks out over Sydney, although be warned it is quite expensive.
The spa and pool are nice, but it is only small and indoors so any more than 6 in the pool and its time to get out. There is an outside sun terrace with a few sun loungers.
We had a really nice time and thought the hotel was lovely. However our memories of the hotel are slightly spoilt as on the last day as we packed our suitcases to leave we discovered that my boyfriend had had a large sum of UK money taken from his suitcase. As I said earlier there is a safe and I would definetely use it. Dont be as stupid as we were to think because it is an expensive hotel that people wont root through your things! So lesson learnt, but just be careful. We called the hotel security and they promised to carry out an investigation and would email me with progress. However 3 month on I still didnt receive any feedback. Eventually they have responded but the after care isnt the best.
Advantages: Beautiful rooms and fantastic view of Harbour Bridge and Opera House Disadvantages: Pricey!
...and I stayed at the Shangri La in Sydney in March 2005. As I was 4 months pregnant we thought we would treat ourselves to a final blowout holiday before children began swallowing all our spare cash! The Shangri La did not disappoint us. Our huge bedroom was absolutely sumptuous. Beautifully and stylishly decorated with silk wall hangings and a fantastic view over the harbour bridge and opera house from our floor to ceiling windows. We decided to ... ...minutes you can stroll to the harbour and catch the ferries to the different beaches or 10 minutes in the other direction and you are in the centre of town or at Darling Harbour. I would most certainly recommend staying at the Shangri La as a treat. ...

---------Things to do in Sydney-------------
When we first arrived in Sydney we had to quickly disappear to the Shangri-Lahotel to go to a friends wedding from England. The reception was in the bar on the 36th floor and gave amazing views over the harbor and allowed us to see many of the sights at night.
On the day we visited we took a walk around the rocks and Darwin harbor and of course took a while to stop and admire the Harbor Bridge. However one thing we didn't do that I wish we did was the Bridge walk. Climbing over the top of the bridge and seeing fabulous views of the city, details can be found here http://www.bridgeclimb.com/. From here we made our way down to the opera house where you can easily kill a couple ...
