This review of the Pannanich WellsHotel is a more brief history of the place than a review. I know the owners & it wouldn?t be an impartial review if I was to write about the hotel.
The history of the place is interesting as is the location of the nearest town called Ballater.
PANNANICH WELLSHOTEL
Ballater has become famous for its royal connections (more about that later) but long before Queen Victoria came to the area it was made famous as being another British spa town, providing water that healed. It still runs today from the Pannanich Wells on the east side, south of the River Dee.
It?s now bottled as Deeside water & sold around the world including in supermarkets such as Tesco & Sainsbury?s. It has become very popular recently after two independent tests confirmed that it really does have healing properties in ...

A few weeks ago we were lucky enough to have a wedding to go to in Wells, Somerset. I'd never been to Wells before and I was impressed with what a lovely place it was. Not only does it boast a beautiful cathedral, it also has a very impressive bishop's keep surrounded by a mote.
Prices and Booking
As the wedding was quite early in the morning we decided to go down the night before and stay in a hotel or a B&B so that we'd have time enough in the morning to get up and get ready. So we looked on the internet and it turned out that everything was pretty expensive. We tried looking up a hotel that was right next to the cathedral just to see what kind of prices it charged and it seemed as though it was going to cost us over £100 per night. However, when we delved deeper into the site the price seemed to become less and less as we ...

in the Lake District at 200-odd metres. Ok so where's the lake? Well it's in the North Lakes, about 10 miles from Penrith. If you're on the M6, take the turn-off for Shap and it's about 6 miles of winding road later. If you're not on the M6 I can only suggest you're lost. Shap, if it doesn't ring alarm-bells, should. It's quite a godforsaken place where it always rains. If anyone from shap writes to me complaining, then it is because the rain has addled your brain and depression has led to erratic complaining about well known fact. I did a lot of geology around Shap because of its famous granite - it's the very pink one people have for worktops - and ALWAYS spent the time huddled in a corner trying to light a fag in a force 10 gale. The journey from Shap to the hotel takes you down a lot of windy roads where a tom-tom is necessary, though ...

Manufacturer's product description
Shap Wells Hotel was opened in 1833 to serve the growing numbers of visitors coming to take the waters of the Shap Spa, located in the hotel\\\'s grounds. Under the ownership of the Earl of Lonsdale the hotel became a fashionable resort visited by many members of the aristocracy, the best known of these being HRH Princess Mary, Aunt of HM the Queen, who came with the Lonsdale Shooting Parties to the hotel in the 1920\\\'s and early 30\\\'s. During the second world war Shap Wells was requisitioned as a prisoner of war camp for senior Luftwaffe and German Naval Officers. A continuous programme of expansion and refurbishment over the last 40 years has transformed Shap Wells into a unique hotel. First time guests find it hard to believe that this beautiful, large, three star hotel in the middle of nowhere is still a family run establishment - but on your arrival it is impossible not to notice the unique friendliness, informal atmosphere and exceptional hospitality.
