I have been very lucky in that I have been scuba diving in many different parts of the world. The Red Sea and in particular Sharm-El-Sheikh is probably up there with some of the best.

The first thing to say is that you can pick-up some great budget packages from the UK, just look in the back of any dive magazine to find some deals. Secondly it's just a short flight from the UK, you can pretty much go anytime of the year with good weather pretty much expected (although water temperatures will vary). The only downside about travelling is the scramble to get your visa when you arrive at the airport, it's unavoidable and remember to take foreign currency with you.
I usually stay in Sharm-El-Sheikh and as a resort I think it is clean and tidy and offers something for everyone in terms of the mixture of food and entertainment. The resort is dominated with divers so very rarely do you see people on the floor to drunk to move, it's just all very mellow and laid back.
At the ports where you meet the crews and board your boat everyday, it's absoloutely packed, lots of shouting, loads of boats and a really buzz around the place. All the boats seem spacious and comfortable. The crew are polite and friendly. Lunch on the boat is usually a pasta salad type thing, with a hot dish on the side which can be a little repeatative after a week. Lots of water and other cold drink are on hand.
The actual diving is out of this world, as you have seen on all the photos published it is very colourful with lots of varied dives, and loads of marine life (both big and small to see). There are a couple of wrecks to see which are always very popular. In fact they are almost to popular. Some of the sites like the Thistlegorm are packed with about 20 boats at the site and a hundred divers below the surface.
Some of my favourite dives have been at Jack Fish Alley, only because it's quiet and plenty to see.
The instructors in Sharm-El-Sheikh are good, there is always a good briefing before hand and they know what there talking about. Safety is always important and it maybe forth mentioning that it is illegal to go below 30meters.
Several friends have learn't to dive at Sharm-El-Sheikh, it takes about 3 days to finish the course, and generally speaking they have all become very good divers given their limited experience.
Finally don't be put off by the idea of falling ill with food poisoning. The food out there is great, you only fall ill if you drink the local water.
Advantages: Awesome diving, very cheap. Disadvantages: You will get an upset stomach.
...it from, is that of Sharm el Sheik on the Sinai peninsula of Egypt. There is an excellent variety of marine life, with the chance of seeing some large pelargics including Hammerhead Sharks, Whale Sharks and Manta Rays in season. The other good thing about the Red sea area is that there is plenty of things to do for non-divers. If you stay in Israel or Jordan then a visit to the Rose city of Petra is a must, as seen in the Indiana Jones Movie. If ... ...desert safaris, and a visit to St Catherines Monestry at the foot of Mount Sinai is well worth the trip. If you choose to stay on a Egyptian resort such as Hugharda, then just a four hour car journey away is the city of Luxor where you can find all the great attractions. The temple of Thebes, Luxor Temple, Valleys of the Kings, Queens and Nobles and Much much more. The Leather goods in luxor are also worth a try as they are very cheap. Where ever ...

...as javpinall, i went to Sharm El Sheikh. The morphology of Sharm El Sheikh's coastline is unique. and as there web page states
"At Ras Nasrani opposite Gordon Reef the level beaches typical of this part of the Sinai are suddenly transformed into a belt of sheer, flat-topped cliffs extending vertically out of the sea. At various points along these cliffs, particularly at Ras Mohammed, traces of fossilized coral can still be found - a telltale indication ... ...forced above the waves during a period of marked geological shift. The line of cliffs starting at Ras Nasrani continues virtually unbroken until the western side of Ras Mohammed, where flat terrain predominates once more from The Quay onwards."
this is exactly how it is, perfect a dream come true..unbelieveable how something canactually been seen like this. its just something yousee in the movies up close, its like a wide screen tele right in front ...

Advantages: Great staff, excellent teaching methods, beautiful marine life Disadvantages: The walk from school to Beach!
people to dive and 14 years of that experience have been gained in SharmElSheikh so if you are looking for a dive school that are familiar with the sites they are diving, then you will certainly get that here.
The Staff
In total, there are probably no more than 10 instructors that work for the Sinai Dive School which was located at the Hilton Sharks Bay Hotel. On top of this, there was a receptionist as well as a couple of sales people (who would walk around the hotel informing people of their services) and about 10 Egyptian lads who were always on hand to help you with ?kitting up?, getting you equipment ready and putting on your wetsuit.
The Instructors
Myself and my boyfriend had just one instructor for all our dives we participated it. Obviously for the Open Water Course, it made sense that we would have the same instructor ...
