Sheffield became a city in 1889 approxiamate guess. Its the fourth largest city in England, with London, Birmingham and Leeds just in front of us. We have two universitys Sheffield Hallam and University of Sheffield. We have two fhigh profile football teams, Sheffield United and Wednesday. We are also home to the oldest football club in the world, Sheffield FC still in exsitence. For some strange reason Rotherham United have started to play games in Sheffield. The city centre is large but struggles due to the success of Meadowhall which has taken a lot of trade from the city centre. Our city caters more for the student than the people who live there, as you will see if you go down west street where all the pubs have student nights. We are located aout eight miles away from the wonderful countryside known as the peak district. We have more green areas (parks and stuff) than any other city including london. Every other city is around 35 to 40 miles away, such as Manchester, Nottingham, Derby, Leeds, Wakefield. We have a few nighclubs such as Gatecrasher, Leadmill, Flares. All the bars you can find any town are here. Shops in the city centre are reasonabe, but nothing spectacular, and there is a lot of development happening, allbeit slowly. Certain areas would be best avoided on a visit here such as Pitsmoor and Jordanthorpe which are crime high spots. Most areas are well worth looking at. Things to see in Sheffield. 1. Meadowhall (Giant shopping centre) 2. Ponds Forge (Swimming baths of olympic standard.) 3. Graves Park. (Sheffields biggest park includes a rare animal breed centre. 4. Heeley City Farm (Communiy based farm learning people about animals.) 5. Leadmill (Oldest nightclub in Sheffield) 6. Winter gardens (Covered area with loads of plants) 7. Lyceum theatre (Re-furbished theatre, made into its former splendour of its victorian heyday. 8. Crucible theatre (Home of the world snooker championship) 9. Weston Park Museum (Done up in the last 5 years and the improvements can be seen. Impressive) 10. Millenium Galleries (Built to celebrate the millenium an art gallery that exibits things that have been shown at the tate gallery as they have a special deal with the tate) 11. Peace gardens. Excellent gardens in the city centre modelled on continetal designs with giant fountain, picture included Getting around is easy as we have a good transport sysytem of busses and trams. A day saver on a first bus is £4.50 which gives travel around south Yorkshire, or £4 for the sheffield one valid on all first services, on the tram its only £3 however this is a limited offer, which can be used on stagecoach busses. A more expensive option is the south yorkshire daytripper at £5.50 which can be used on trains and all trams and busses.

Day saver from First is only £4.00 and not £4.50. It allows unlimited travel on any first bus in Sheffield throughout the day. The reason Rotherham play in Sheffield is due to the fact they fell into financial difficulty and lost their own ground in Rotherham.

Advantages: Great public transport and lots to do Disadvantages: Not really ideal for longer than a day trip because tourism hasn't really developed here yet.
