For those spending a few days in downtown Toronto, there is certainly no better location than this hotel. It is right in the heart of the city, in walking distance from everything a tourist may want to do: The Eaton Centre, Queen Street West, Yonge Street, CN Tower.
***Arrival***
Upon arrival, we were greeted by a very friendly front desk person who was well aware that we had booked this hotel at a bargain price via Priceline. Nonetheless, he treated us with as much courtesy as he would have treated a full-paying customer and even upgraded us to one of their special rooms for Starwood Preferred Guests. We also were able to choose whether we wanted to stay on a high floor or a low floor, so we opted for a higher floor.
The elevators are simply brilliant - they take you up to your room in no time. One quibble we immediately had, however, was that the room was located next to a very noisy ice-making machine.
***The room***
The room itself was very large, equipped with a comfortable king-sized bed, an easy-chair, a small table, a desk and a television. The room did not have a refrigerator or mini-bar, however. It was kept very clean during our 3-day stay.
As the room faced north, the view was not spectacular. However, given the number of buidings that would block the view to Lake Ontario on the other side of the building, I do not believe we missed out on much.
The closet in the room came equipped with a safe, one bath robe, ironing board and iron and plenty of space and coat hangers.
The bathroom was large, clean and tidy with a nice bathtub. The complimentary toiletries in mandarin and mint scent were some of the best that I have ever seen.
***Dining***
There are several dining options in the hotel, however, we only tried the Bistro for breakfast. The buffet was overpriced at almost GBP 15 per person, so we opted to order some oatmeal from the menu for GBP 5 each. This took forever to be delivered and when it arrived was rather disappointing in terms of both size and taste. With tea and juice priced at around GBP 3, we certainly cannot recommend this place as a dining option. It's much better to head to the Sunset Grill around the corner at Richmond Street and Yonge Street.
***Other facilities***
The hotel boasts a beautiful gym and a decent-sized outdoor pool. For those who like to swim lanes, it is a bit of a luck of the draw whether you will be able to get a proper workout. There are a lot of children in the pool during certain times of the day.
The hotel offers complimentary wireless Internet access in the lobby, but it costs extra when using the Internet in the privacy of your own room.
***Price***
We were lucky enough to book this hotel via Priceline at the bargain price of less than GBP 40 a night. Normally this hotel would cost well over GBP 100. It certainly is not worth the "normal" rate, but if you are able to get this at a bargain price, I would recommend it.
