Advantages: Huge room, great pools, lots of facilities at the hotel Disadvantages: A bit on the expensive side, the beach is not that nice
...When we were planning the trip to Langkawi we had trouble getting a grasp on where to stay on the island. In the end we decided to go for a hotel located on the beach know as Pantai Cenang. I guess Langkawi can be compared to the island of Phuket in Thailand but note that the price level of hotels seems to be higher on Langkawi compared to Phuket. After looking at reviews on TripAdvisor we ended up booking a room at the hotel Pelangi beachresort and we booked through their website http://www.pelangibeachresort.com/ . We had to pay 533 Ringgit (about 75£) for the room per night and this did not include breakfast.
On March 25th we went from Perhentian Island to Langkawi. It was a long day as we had to get up early, catch the boat to the main land, drive to the airport at Kota Bharu, go to KL and from there take the flight to Langkawi...

Advantages: tropical, duty free Disadvantages: boring, no night life
.... As you arrive at the main jetty, you will see the big monument of the eagle. It's beautiful.
Town
---------
The main town in Langkawi is Kuah town, there you can find all sorts of duty free items and souveniors. Important note to tourists is that make sure you bargain for the items. You really don't want to be ripped off in Langkawi. Compare prices before you buy because most shops sell the same things, and many shop owners own the same shops just few doors away, so be careful.
Nightlife
------------
The nightlife in Langkawi is absolutely dead. Most ppl stay in their hotel and enjoy the beach if you are in a resort. My personal recommendation during the night would be to go to Pantai Cenang and enjoy the breeze, while enjoying a cheap pint of beer bought from one of the duty free shops in Kuah during the afternoon.

Advantages: A beautiful, scenic, and peaceful island Disadvantages: Not many shops
...We flew to Langkawi as part of a 3 centre holiday to the far east,it was a short flight from Phuket in Thailand. As we got off the plane, the heat once again surrounded us,we were picked up and taken on a short ride through small villages, untill we came to our home for the next 10 nights, the Berjaya resort on the north west corner of the island. The resort is large ,and alot of the 300+ chalets are situated way back in the jungle. We were very lucky, our chalet was near the front of the resort ,over-looking the sea.We unpacked, and went out exploring,we had seen pictures of the beach, but it is much nicer than we had expected, quite along, broad expance of sand, and turquiose/green sea. From the beach you can look up and see the mountains, and the dreaded cable car[i have a fear of heights!!!].The cable car is a new tourist attraction, that was only...
