Langkawi life

Advantages: Natural beauty, wildlife, sun, sea, food, culture, relaxing, little traffic, souvenirs
Disadvantages: Humidity, monsoon rain in wrong season, mosquitoes

Langkawi is a small island one hour plane direct to the International airport from Kuala Lumpur. You can fly direct from the UK if you wish with Malaysia airlines, but from KL you can get cheap flights using Air Asia (the equivalent to Easijet). You walk from the plane to the modern terminal in Langkawi and from here you are easily accessible to all parts of the island. The main town Kuah is approx 45 minutes drive. Here you will find the town divided into different shopping areas. The ferry terminal with direct access to Thailand and the mainland has a huge eagle statue and modern shopping areas. Revamped approx 3 years ago it is a bussling area for locals and tourists. You can then walk backwards towards the main town area to an inside mall Langkawi Fair, which has many stores selling souvenirs and clothing, as well as a large ...

Langkawi, Datai Bay and the Andaman Hotel

Advantages: You can fly there direct from UK. Fabulous beaches and scenery. Friendly accommodating people.
Disadvantages: You can't fly home direct to UK! Extremely high humidity outside the dry season. Mosquitos!

Langkawi is an island situated off the coast of western Malaysia, not far below the border with Thailand. It is home to people from many cultural backgrounds, all of whom are friendly and charming and cannot do enough to help. Our two week holiday in early May 2004 began with a direct flight to Langkawi with Malaysia Airlines from London Heathrow. The 21.00hrs flight was virtually full, but leg room was better than average and the flight crew were attentive and anxious to please. This direct overnight flight takes around 11.5hrs. A note of advice on the food though, it was curry curry all the way, even at breakfast time! Entertainment was excellent with individual control over TV/video/games/radio programmes. Due to the time difference, Malaysia is 7hrs ahead of the UK (summertime) we arrived at our resort in the early afternoon ...

Review of Langkawi - General (Malaysia)

Beautiful Langkawi

Advantages: A beautiful,scenic,and peaceful island
Disadvantages: Not many shops

We flew to Langkawi as part of a 3 centre holiday to the far east,it was a short flight from Phuket in Thailand. As we got off the plane, the heat once again surrounded us,we were picked up and taken on a short ride through small villages, untill we came to our home for the next 10 nights, the Berjaya resort on the north west corner of the island. The resort is large ,and alot of the 300+ chalets are situated way back in the jungle. We were very lucky, our chalet was near the front of the resort ,over-looking the sea.We unpacked, and went out exploring,we had seen pictures of the beach, but it is much nicer than we had expected, quite along, broad expance of sand, and turquiose/green sea. From the beach you can look up and see the mountains, and the dreaded cable car[i have a fear of heights!!!].The cable car is a new tourist attraction, that was only ...
