The Sheraton is a great place to stay if your family ranges in age from 8 weeks to 80 years. I have been there four times and each time it gets better and better. The facilities are fantastic and my husband loves the golfing facilities. The child care is amazing and I had no problem leaving my two boys at Porto Pirata for a few hours while I enjoyed the spa facilities.
If you get bored of the many swimming pools and the golf, the beach is a short walk away and believe me I never thought I could go body boarding in the sea in the middle of November! The indoor swimming pool is heated but we much preferred the outdoor ones (there are four to choose from). Compared to 5 star hotels in the UK we found the spa treatment prices to be very reasonable and the staff there are really friendly and helpful.
The hotel restaurants are quite pricey but Corda Cafe, located near the golf shop and one of the swimming pools, has a great childrens menu. We used to feed the children there and then go out somewhere else later on. There are a wide range of restaurants located nearby and some great ones (e.g. La Cigale) will even arrange for you to be collected and returned. Certainly a must for seafood lovers.
If you require a supermarket there is one opposite the hotel entrance, although it is quite pricey. For a wider range of shops it is worth visiting Albufeira where there is also a Liddl. If you enjoy British pubs etc. when you are there then there are loads in Albufeira. We personally prefer to visit the more traditional shops and cafes so the old town was more suited to us.
If you have never been to Portugal and want a great place to stay, I have no problem recommending this 5 star hotel.
