Advantages: friendly people, rooms, pools, public areas very well looked after, different themes everyday
Disadvantages: food variation... but what was out was tasty!

. Unfortunately as stunning as the beach was, it was filled with beach sellers everyday so no sunbeds or relaxing down there! The complex also had a group of monkeys running around which were so funny and were great fun to watch... just make sure you close your balcony door when you go out!!! Animation were very good, all different activites throughout the day although did leave you alone if you wernt interested. However if you take part you will get colored beads that you can swap in the gift shop, which is probably one of the cheapest hotels gift shops i have stayed in! Evening entertainment was not too great, even the caribbean do it better, they do try, but we gave up by the 3nd night and chilled out in the bar. Sun, sea, sand oh & the sex on the beach

Advantages: Very clean, excellent service & lovely weather
Disadvantages: Attracts a lot of kids, not excellent evening entertainment

Last September I was planning mine and my boyfriends first holiday and we wanted it to be good as it was our first holiday away together and we had a whole year to pay for it so we didn't mind what we spent. After browsing the net for a good couple of hours and a lot of good reports from friends and relatives we decided on the Dominican Republic. I had a look at all the usual websites you check to get the most competitive price and I decided on booking with Portland direct who are a direct sell agent (that are part of the big Tui group including Thomson etc) After having a look through all the hotels and prices I finally settled for the 4* Gran Ventana beach resort in Playa Dorada (if you wondered why I keep using the term I it is because my boyfriend doesn't have any part in anything like this as it is my job and he is just lazy ...

Ebony and Irony do Golden Sands

Advantages: Proper brand name Coke and large bottle servings - I'm easily pleased, y'see
Disadvantages: The busy areas are even busier at night

show". We went, we saw, and we left half way through, but it was certainly something different. Speaking of the pools, that was something interesting. Along the promenade there were a few swimming pools open to the public (free but for the cost of the sunbeds and parasols). We stuck to our hotel pool instead but these places did seem very popular during the day, perhaps with those lazy souls who were not up early enough in the morning to bag a lounger or two at their accommodation. We stayed at the Iberostar hotels, which were at the end of the promenade, about a kilometre away from the action (and noise) of the centre. The resort boasts a huge number of hotels of varying classification and several apartment complexes, with the vast majority located on the beach or at least with a view of it.
