Looks aren't everything

Advantages: Nice decor nad innivative design

...though that I will remember Shimla Pinks more for the décor than I will the food which is a shame as memorable food is a priority for me especially when the meal is not the cheapest going.

The best example I can give is the fact that the day after visiting Shimla Pinks the main thing I spoke about was my visit to the toilet. Now before you have some George Michael inspired mental picture of me in a Birmingham city centre toilet the ... more

new style curry house, old style food

Advantages: Central location, lively
Disadvantages: mediocre food

A new style curry house in the centre of Birmingham (Broad Street). This restaurant is far away from your, curry slop that becomes Korma, Madras or Vindaloo depending on the amount of curry powder added, Friday night after a few beers, flock wallpaper, citar music playing, type of place. I thought I aws in for a real taste bud treat when I first visited but was dissapointed. Looks can be deceptive. The decors modern retro, brassiere style, with ...
...however, is not a million miles from the above-mentioned restaurants, with only the rice (v good) and the lack of gee (oil) differentiating itself. The presentation is good, the food good, but not great. The old familiars (madras, jalfreizi, nans etc) are all on the menu albeit with slightly different names, along with a handful of dishes I was not familiar with. Prices are reasonable approx £8 mains, £3 rice, £5 side dishes, and wine from £13. ...

Constant

Advantages:
Disadvantages:

'Constant' describes Shimla Pinks, better than any other word that springs to mind. I have visited on 6 occasions, on varying days of the week, at different times, and in different circumstances, and am constantly amazed by the uniform nature of the food, and service. Don't misinterpret my incredulity as indifference - the food is good, and service pleasant. However, the total lack of variety in the menu, which has been the same for 5 years, and ...
...unexciting eating experience. The bright and vivid decor is at odds with many other asian restauramnts and makes a pleasing change. The standard of hygiene is high, extending to the toilets, and the bar extensive. However, this is a restaurant unlikely to appeal to the regular restaurant-goer, due to its lack of effort to evolve. ...

Connoisseurs Indian cuisine in UK

Advantages: Freshly prepared food, superb buffet, basmati rice recommended!
Disadvantages: All courses Not really authentic –but not bad try!some variation in quality between chains (Birmingham's food not as good as Leicester branch)

The aroma of freshly cooked basmati rice, the delicate blend of exotic spices, the crackle of poppadoms triggers your taste buds as you step into this restaurant. Shimla Pinks is a chain of modern Indian restaurants which promise to offer a different dining experience in fine Indian cuisine. These restaurants are set in modern and spacious surroundings with stripped pine floorboards and modern paintings on plain white walls. Many of these restaurants have a bar and relaxation area with comfy sofas to relax before you go to your table. These are completely opposite to the infamous Indian restaurants which many of us have been accustomed to in the UK.. you will find no rich gold embossed wall paper, dark carpet and cosy dark settings here! At present there are approximately 8 restaurants in the UK: in London, Midlands (Birmingham ...

ok for a special occasion

Advantages: good service, modern, airy surroundings
Disadvantages: quite bland food which is over priced

Hi, i visited the Shimla Pinks in Leicester a year ago for valentines with my boyfriend. They had a set menu for around £25 which seemed ok as it was a special occasion. very nicely decorated huge heart shaped ballons etc, excellent service by attentive waiters. However when the food arrived we wernt to impressed at the quality of taste. Not the usual brightly coloured currys, quite bland tasting - not at all spicy ( which most people would go to an indian restaurent for). Exepenive to order extras such as naan brand. The set menu was also not at all flexible - you have to have the one set menu and no alternative is offered. Not filling enough even though it was a 3 course meal. So best to order side dishes and extras. Drinks are quite expensive - wine and spirits. Quite small but nicely decorated - the toilets are the best ...
