You wil find the main shopping centre of Rome to be at the foot of the Spanish steps. It includes many chic and expensive shops (the kind that you feel often uncomfortable to walk into) coupled with those aimed at a more high street customer.
The thing that is perhaps most welcoming about shopping in Rome itself, is the inexpensive price of the high-street shops. I was very shocked to find well-made clothing, using quality fabrics, at really cheap prices. The exchange rate at the moment makes this even better for the English tourist. I managed to buy a lot more items on a tight budget than I was expecting.
Shops range from Gucci, Sisley, Oynx, Prada etc. I felt more comfortable walking into the smaller boutiques and this is also where you will find the best deals. Look for well-made garments that use gorgeous fabrics. You will find them to be much cheaper than their British alernative.
