In the past my wife and I have been pretty relaxed about where and how we holiday. We've done all inclusive, B&B, Half Board, City Breaks, Beach Holidays, make it up as we go along etc.
However we now have a 5-year-old boy to look after and so our holidays have to be thought through in advance.
This year we chose Fuerteventura as our holiday destination and chose the MonicaBeach Hotel on the recommendation of our travel agent because of its reputation as a nice family orientated hotel.
The trip from Birmingham Airport takes about 4 to 4 1/2 hours. I'm not going to talk about the flight since different airlines will offer a different standard of service. Suffice to say that I travelled with MyTravel and went 'cattle class' :(

We stayed in SantaMonica for the first few days of January 2005,
using it as a last stop before heading to LAX {Los Angeles Airport} its about a thirty minute car journey away.
We travelled up to SantaMonica from San Diego and this coast had suffered some of the worst winter rain storms for quite along time.
So when we arrived in SantaMonica it all looked a bit wind-strewn with lots of palm debris on the prom and a lot of liquid in the street.
Luckily it dried up for the first afternoon exploration of the resort.
What can I say we headed for the beach,having to cross a busy road you first come to a strip {we would call it a promonade} which looks like a park,however the place is full of tramps {bums-americanism} either camping on the grass or occupying whatever public seating there is.

When I think of SantaMonica, it's all about the beaches (yes, where they filmed Baywatch apparently) and the pier.
To give you some idea of it's importance amongst locals, this pier was built in 1909. Now, at the risk of sounding patronising, most Americans' won't have seen many buildings of this age before. That's because SantaMonica is one of the neighbourhood's in Los Angeles and Los Angeles is all about the here and now, not the long forgotton. So to them, this pier is heritage, and just about as good as that gets!
Also, an important fact worth mentioning is that the historical Route 66, made famous by the Rolling Stones, ends just in front of the Pier.
