Mt Etna - Risky but great adventure
Review of Mount Etna, Catania, Sicily by hauran

Advantages: Nice weird landsape, nice view to catania and to the main crater!
Disadvantages: Risky because of the toxication possibility

As far that there is no adventurers review i have to write my experiance about my trip to Etna with my wife. We were by can on the island Sicili and first we have seen was Ethna. It was about 30 degrees down, clima was turned on and we have seen huge black - absolutely black mountain with snow! I decided that we must visit it. we have driven to the parking place above Catania, which is about 1900 meters high if i remember well. We paid cheap parking ...
...from parking place - a cable car. It is a bit expensive - about 20 euro per person and since nobody was walking under the cable car i decided that it is not so bad option. We were walking on the ski slope up. The surface was not an easy terrain since there are a bit large black stones. If you are walking you will be able to see old cable car destructed by lava in 2002. when we got to the upper station of cable car we found next transport - there ... Read review

a wonderful archipelago
Review of Aeolian Islands, Sicily by traveller55

Advantages: one of the most beautiful destination in the world
Disadvantages: don't go in summer time

...restaurant. But visiting the Aeolian isles not in season means to have clouds as travelling companion, and I had this experience in October 2003. The nature, that is still wild in this constellation formed by seven isles, appears in its full beauty and reality. The presence of Aeolus is more evident as the god and his sons slash the surface of the Tyrrhenian and the faces of local inhabitants and of a few tourists. The wise policy of the local ...
...and the culture of the Aeolian isles I visited the local archaeological museum. A place that everybody must visit in Lipari is Canneto and its white sandy beaches (the colour comes from the pumice sediments). Vulcano, that the ancients called "isle of fire", right now is better know for its nightlife during summertime. Myself, I remember this isle for the possibility to have curative and beauty treatments with mud baths, mud coming from its slimy ... Read review

Valle dei templi
Review of Valley of the Temples (Valle dei Templi), Agrigento, Sicily by arale

Advantages: beautiful experience, beautiful temples
Disadvantages: the temples are surrounded by hugly houses wich ruin the beauty of the landscape

...to go there anyway. during the night the temples are illuminated and it looks like a great show. You could visit the valley but not necesserely spend the night into the city of Agrigento because the seeside and the small seavillages around are much better then the citycenter. ... Read review

Marvellous Etna
Review of Mount Etna, Catania, Sicily by annetortue

Advantages: out of thi world landscape
Disadvantages: tourist shops

we visited mount Etna in August 2006 and had a lovely experience. we visited the north site. The landscape is like nothing you have ever seen before, just breathtakingly deserted and lunar-like se of volcanic rock. It can be quite tricky to get there via public transport but if you are travelling with a tour operator, it is more than likely that a trip to Etna will be organised. We decided to rent a car and had a lovely journey from Taormina, through ...
...Etna is a volcano (therefore altitude which means drop of temperature, erratic weather patterns, etc...), so prepare your clothing adequately with jumper, waterproof clothing, trainers or hiking shoes. we saw a woman at 2700m in short, skimpy vest and flip-flop, obviously totally unprepared for the bitter cold near the summit. If you have the opprtunity anf the money to have a guide to take you to the summit do it as it seems to be a great experince. ... Read review

Lucky
Review of Mount Etna, Catania, Sicily by jtamagnini

Advantages: Roam freely in quite a moody volcano
Disadvantages: You may require brown pants!!!!

We visited Mount Etna in late September 2006 and it was well worth the money spent. There are two sites to visit from, Etna South (sud) or Etna North (nord) Our first visit was to Etna South and the road access is quite good as it has been recently rebuilt. This is is the main site and has local ski school, shops and restaurants of reasonable quality. The full tour is unlimited in time and costs 45 Euros per person. You rise by cable car over the ...
...centre with a reasonable eatery and various sale items. The next leg takes you up 3100m by jeep bus through the lava fields. a very bumpy ride. At this point you disembark by a hut where you can sample the local "fuoco del'Etna". A drink not for the lightweight as it is 71% alcohol. You then can either go with a tour guide you will take all over the place to see fumoreles and old craters. Etna is one of the most active volcanoes in the world but ... Read review
