Advantages: Friendly staff, great ambiance, decor, cleanliness Disadvantages: Can be crowded
If you want to visit the wonderful city of Madrid and stay in true luxury, then the SilkenPuerta America is the place to go. Great facilities, excellent location, friendly staff, and surprisngly reasonable prices if you "shop around" the Net for special deals.
Located about 2 minutes walk from Caragena metro station, the Hotel is in a quiet part of town, and yet the centre, with all it's attractions, is just two metro stops away, and a return metro journey costs only 2 euros, which is less than £2.00. Compare that with the minimum £4.00 single on London's Underground, to see what good value Madrid can be as a holiday destination.
From the outside, the Puerta America does not look anything special - just a high rise with some strange grafitti-style writing in many languages, all over the facade......... but step over the threshold ...
Advantages: 15 mins from La Rambla, Air Con, Modern, Clean Disadvantages: Would have been nice if it was more central but then you would not get the reasonable prices
We stayed here for four nights in September 2006 and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
We arrived at Barcelona airport at around 10.30am in the morning. We got the airport bus which took us into the centre of the city and after struggling to get our bearings; we jumped into a taxi and got it to take us direct to the hotel.
On arrival at the hotel, we were greeted by a very welcoming receptionist who promptly checked us in at 11am - considering we didn't think our room would be ready we were made up about this. This is what you need when you have been up since 4.30am. The reception area is very open, had a seating area, and is fully air conditioned and clean.
Our bedroom was on the 4th floor. From reception there are two lifts which you can use or you can take the stairs.
We entered the room which was situated at the back ...
Advantages: Very close to city centre and transport, Cheap. Disadvantages: Can be noisy
Me and my girlfriend decided to visit Madrid last summer. So being the students that we are we booked cheap flights on easyjet. That was the easy bit. The hard part came later when we had to decide on a hotel to stay in. We wanted somewhere close to the city centre as we were only there for a few days but we had to do it on a budget but wanted to go slightly better than a hostel, it was after all our first holiday abroad together.
::: Why The Asturias?? :::
We eventually settled on the Hotel Asturias because it fitted what we wanted. It is extremely close to the city centre which is what we wanted as we were only there for 3 nights. It is only minutes away from the Calle Gran Via, one of the main shopping streets in Madrid. It is also minutes away from two metro stations (in opposite directions, either Sol or Sevilla which will ...
