Advantages: Easily accessible from UK, Cheap flights/coach transport. Disadvantages: Small city and not many maps so you get easily lost

Plane
This is the easiest way to get to Amsterdam, as the planes are very regular. Some flights are direct and others are long haul flights picking up other passengers on the way with one of the stops being Amsterdam. The times of planes at Heathrow airport suggest that they could be for business people travelling in the morning and evenings regularly to get to and from work. Stanstead airport suggests that not many flights are available due to it being a long way from central London. The same suggestions go for Glasgow airport too. Basiq, KLM, Ryanair, Easyjet and VLM all provide flights to and from Amsterdam.
Some airports in The Netherlands are Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Eindhoven, Groningen and Enschede. Some of the cheapest flights to Amsterdam cost around £75 from Gatwick to Amsterdam by Opodo...

...available for purchase bearing the VSOE emblem, such as tiepins, brooches, pens etc.
All along the journey there were enthusaists on every bridge hoping to catch a glimpse of the train especially as she was steam hauled - it was like being famous for a day!
We did the trip in 1999 at a cost of £190 each which may sound a bit steep but it was well worth the money and it is an experience we intend to repeat as soon as possible. We would also like to do the Venice Simplon run, which gives the train it’s full name, but I think we’ll have to win the lottery first!...
