After being put off this hotel by other reviews we decided to try it ourselves ! We had a fantastic long weekend, the weather was great which always helps but the hotel is far better than we had been led to believe! We booked last minute so got good deals on the more expensive rooms, which I would thoroughly recomend, the new Signature rooms are beautiful, done out in attractive sea green colours with a mini bar and plasma tv, and great views across the lawns and sea. The Royale rooms are even better with four poster bed, mini bar, trouser press, huge bathroom with separate whirlpool bath and shower cubicle (complimentary toiletries in both rooms and tea and coffee making equip) you also get bath robes and slippers, fresh fruit and chocolates, which is fantastic. Royale rooms also have a telescope, presumably for looking at the wonderful view, but for some reason it caused us great hilarity ! The food was excellent and the table staff very helpful, some food is served carvery style where you serve yourself, but starters and desserts and some main courses are served at the table. It may be useful to know that the better the room you have booked, the better your table in the restuarant ! therefore anyone in the ordinary ambassador rooms will be seated in the biggest main part of the restuarant. The Ambassador Rooms look like very nice "travel lodge" type rooms, perfectly adequate and well appointed. The entertainment varies enormously, we had an Elvis tribute which was absolutely awful, but the other 2 nights entertainment was great, a tribute to Richard Rogers musicals( Sound of music, south pacific etc) which was done by the entertainment team was very well done and a chap singing Vegas type songs was very good. We enjoyed all the quizzes, bingo and other activities very much, some people might find them a bit naff but you only have to join in what you want to. The leisure facilities are great, I spent a lot of time in the outdoor pool as the the weather was fab,but there is an indoor pool and gym as well. I also tried the beauty salon which was very relaxing ,had a great manicure. There is a small shop for postcards, daily papers and anything you forgot to pack ! I can honestly say there was nothing we disliked at all, ( apart from Elvis !) and we are all looking forward to going again, and I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone looking for somewhere to relax and unwind ! just think, no washing up!!

Advantages: Great for older groups, DBB included, can accommodate a large group Disadvantages: Can feel like god's waiting room. Entertainment is a little flat at times.
