My first time travelling on Singapore Airlines and was presently surprised: a long haul flight of 17 hours was not the usual combination of tedium and discomfort, instead I was comfortable and relaxed on both outward and return journeys. The staff were extremely helpful and attentive and didn't seem to have the plastic smiles and reluctant manner so common to many airline staff. The food was not just edible but quite enjoyable especially combined with a reasonable selection of european wines. Although space seemed to be at a premium I was travelling Economy class and did find I had more legroom than many other airlines I have used.
One of the few complaints i will make concerns the film selection: although there were over 10 films few of these were worth watching and the films did't change for the return journey.
Finally offboard service was entirely adequate - smooth check in and boarding, reconfirming the flights was easy, and the staff were very helpful.
A very efficient and friendly service that is at the upper end of the price range but worth it if you can afford it. Book early because they seem to be much in demand and most flights are quite full.
