Singapore Airlines really do rise above any other airline irrelevant of the class or distance you fly.
I have recently returned from a trip to Sydney, Australia and after the many good reports we decided to fly with Singapore Airlines. I knew I shouldn’t be disappointed.

We booked the flights through the travel agent about 1 year in advance as because of the popularity of Singapore Airlines the flights get booked up very quickly indeed. The total price for each member of our party came to £1440 including airport taxes at Manchester, Singapore and Sydney and VAT. Which was a very reasonable price for such a long distance journey? We decided to fly economy class after inspecting the various classes available via their website and decided that economy would suit our needs adequately.

Our departure date came and we made our journey to Manchester Airport. The flight was at 9am to Singapore via Brussels and we had to be there for 2 hours before departure. On arrival we were already aware that we had a 20kg limit for our luggage, and a 7kg limit for our hand luggage which was 2kg extra than all other carriers which was an added bonus. On arriving the check in queue moved very quickly and we had soon arrived at one of the desks. The process was very quick and we were then informed that Singapore Airlines also give an extra 10kg for your luggage and we could have had 30kg!! Most airlines charge you for 20.1kg however not Singapore which impressed us even more and meant we could bring lots of presents back for others (mainly ourselves!!!). We then made our way through to the departure area and browsed the duty free. The announcement came across the tannoy when boarding began which was in a much organised fashion which meant the plane boarded much quicker. After leaving the terminal we were greeted by the crew who were immaculately dressed in their uniforms and even a single hair on their heads was not out of place. My mother was very jealous of how perfect their skin complexion was!! They directed us to our seats and we were soon sat down.

We had a group of 3 seats on the left hand side of the plane. The seats were very spacious with ample legroom. There was a footrest should you wish to rest your legs and pillows and blankets were there to keep us warm and comfortable should we wish to sleep. There was a wide array of magazines in the pocket in front of us were we could purchase duty free or read about Singapore Airlines and of course many UK titles were also included. After we were seated the crew then arrived with very hot towels which were there to freshen us up for the flight and the first meal. These were often brought round when a meal was served or after we had woken up to keep us feeling fresh throughout the flight. As we began to taxi to the runway they played the safety video which was far easier to pay attention to instead of a member of crew at the front of the plane performing silly actions. The video highlighted flight safety and emergency procedures and was quite pleasant to watch. The plane then took off and before we knew it we were cruising at 35,000 feet on our way to Singapore!!

Whilst in the flight there are many things to do you can read a magazine or book or even sleep, however the one thing to keep you entertained very successfully throughout the flight was the Kris world entertainment system. The Kris world system is controlled by a remote control which comes out of your seat. The remote control is one side and on the other is a sky telephone so you may call different seats on the plane for free which is particularly useful if you have been separated. You can also call any other phone in the world by swiping your credit card down the side and dialling the number. Call anyone from above the world. The remote control however allows you to access a wide array of entertainment. You may choose to watch a latest movie that is showing in the cinemas. You can choose what you want to watch and when you want to watch it. If a meal comes you can just pause it and continue after. It is so easy to use and has so much choice it is incredible. You can also watch many T.V. programmes from comedy to documentaries and even sport again allowing you to pause them whenever you want. Many radio stations also run on the flight for different tastes of music, plus you can also select a particular music album to play and pause in the middle or create your own play list from the wide album selection.
Then for the young at heart there is a built in gameboy where you can play approximately 50 different games throughout the flight which is good for young and old alike and certainly keeps the kids entertained. You may also like to know where you are in the world at some point so you can bring up the flight path screen which shows you where you are at the moment on the map and the speed of the plane and altitude and all sorts of information. The Kris World system is so fantastic that time on board just flies by.

The food is also very important on a flight and this is where Singapore airlines excel even further. At the beginning of the flight the crew will deliver to you a menu detailing the food available at meal serving times and the various choices. The amount of meals served depends on how long your flight is however even a 50 minute flight can squeeze in a meal and the quality is still superb! The range of food varies from western style menus to more traditional eastern cuisine which is quite often a welcome change to our normal everyday food. However you eat, you will not be disappointed with Singapore Airlines.

Overall as an Airline, Singapore has to be the worlds best irrelevant of flight class. The facilities of their modern fleet are vast and the food and crew make the flight a much more enjoyable experience. I however, cannot wait to make another trip with Singapore Airlines. Try them for yourself and I can guarantee you won’t be disappointed.
