Uniquely Singapore!

Advantages: Shopping, Cleanliness, Nice People
Disadvantages: HEAT!!!

...No trip is complete to Singapore without a look around the famous Raffles Hotel. Raffles Hotel opened in 1887 and is one of the last great 19th century hotels. Many famous people have stayed here and Singaporeans enjoy telling stories of the people who have graced the Raffles rooms. The hotel has been given a "face-lift" and the grandeur of it is impressive! It now houses, not only the hotel which are suite only rooms, but also 70 shops and restaurants. ...
...is the ONLY place in Singapore where you are allowed to litter!!! Each table has a large bowl of peanuts and the shells can be thrown on the floor! We were hungry, so we had Sunday brunch which was an amazing buffet of seafood and meats! The service was excellent and we never had to ask for anything as our needs were anticipated. Well, it is said that the second most popular activity in Singapore to eating was shopping. So, off we went to explore ...

Animals at night.

Advantages: Unusual, interesting, cheap.
Disadvantages: The animal shows. Inconsiderate humans using the flash on their cameras.

How many times have you gone to a zoo and found that most of the animals are asleep because they're nocturnal? If you've ever wondered what the animals get up to when it gets dark that head to Singapore's Night Safari. Located next to Singapore's Zoological Gardens the Night Safari is set in 40 hectares of wilderness and it's fantastic. The safari has so many different species - lions, leopards, rhinos, elephants, giraffes, tigers, otters, wolves, ...
...are roughly £6 for adults and £3.50 for children. For about £1.70 extra you can take a tram ride around the zoo which I highly recommend. It opens at 7:30 pm and closes at midnight every day. I went there on Christmas Day 2004 after spending the day at the the zoo. I went in as soon as it opened and the queues weren't too bad. I started off with the tram ride around the safari where you get a feel for the lay-out of the place and a guide points out ...

The Arab Touch

Advantages: Old part of Singapore
Disadvantages: Not very big

Arab Street in Singapore isn't very big and there isn't that much to see in the area. Historically, Arab traders from Yemen and the Middle East, took up residence in this part of Singapore. Most notable from these Arab traders was Shaikh Mustafa al-Juneid who contributed considerably towards the local community. Arab Street is in an area known as the Arab Quarter. The most famous landmark here is the Sultan Mosque, on North Bridge Road, distinguished ...
...mosque are streets with distinctive Arab names such as Baghdad Street, Muscat Street and Haji Lane. These are lined with Muslim restaurants selling Halal food and shops selling Batiks and silks, along with other handicrafts and gift items. The other distinguishing landmark of this area is the Istana Kampong Glam, the residence of the Malay royalty who ruled Singapore before the arrival of the English. If you are visiting Singapore, then a visit ...

Best in the World

Advantages: world class zoological gardens
Disadvantages: animals are still kept in enclosures (for the safety of the people going to the zoo i suppose) but they are confortable

The Singapore Zoological Gardens has been touted to be one of the best in the world. It boasts of natural enclosures without any of their animal residents kept in cages and the viewing galleries and enclosures are designed such that the animals are most comfortable in their environment. In fact, the management has taken pains to re-create enclosures for animals that will most resemble their original habitat. It is a great place for children and adults ...
...are perhaps a rarity in Singapore owing to its heavily residential and commercial nature and the lack of space for open farms etc. There is also a large playground for children that includes a wading pool. If you would like something perhaps more exotic and something that would be more memorable, try calling the zoo in advance to see if you can book breakfast, lunch or dinner with the popular in-house resident, Ah-Meng. On a less pre-planned itinerary, ...

Frequent Visitor

Advantages: more of a scenic spot in singapore
Disadvantages: none

I would most definitely recommend Pasir Panjang to anyone who visits Singapore. Being a native of the land, I would most certainly be qualified on this area. It is perhaps one of the most scenic spots in Singapore. Pasir Panjang is perhaps more residential than commercial in nature even if it is recognised by the locals for housing the Singapore Science Parks. Some places to visit would include the Science Park, Mount Faber which is close to Pasir ...
...local food at reasonable prices. Pasir Panjang Village offers some semblance of nightlife but you would be better off at the more popular nightspots of Mohamme Sultan Road and Clarke Quay, as well as, Boat Quay. Don't expect to get much shopping done in that area though as there are more supermarkets there than there are designer boutiques... ...
