Reliable up-market hotel
Review of Pan Pacific, Singapore by
JackieLittle
Advantages: Centrally situated
Disadvantages: Can be a little confusing to find your. way around initally
Stayed at the Pan Pacific in March 2007. We found it extremely comfortable, the staff were very polite and helpful, sometimes hilariously so!. On the day of our arrival, we had only been in the room for about half an hour when a young man knocked on the door. He wanted to check the room, but didn't seem to understand that we had only just arrived. We let him in (it was easier), and he looked around, then went into the bathroom and folded the toilet ... ...The pool area is very pleasant and comfortable. As we lay on our sunbeds, a little maid appeared with complimentary bottles of water and fruit. There were also magazines, clean towels and free sun creams to use.
The hotel is connected to the Marina Shopping Mall through a door on the second floor. If you aren't going out in a taxi, then you don't use the front door, it leads on to a service road, very confusing!
Food and drink is fairly expensive, ...

Shangri la Sinapore
Review of Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore by
aimeeclaire
Advantages: Beautiful hotel, really friendly staff
Disadvantages: Long walk to the shops
We stayed at the Shangri La hotel for 3 nights in March 2006. I travelled in a party of 5 adults and we shared 2 rooms. We stopped over on our way to Australia as part of a 2 month holiday and we all agreed this was the nicest hotel we stayed in. The hotel was beautiful, set in gardens and has a very grand appearance, with a really nice reception area and bar, and you would expect in Singapore it is very clean. The rooms were really nice with fresh ... ...a large pool with sun loungers which is great as it was very humid in Singapore.
The restaurants in the hotel were mixed, we went to the Chinese restaurant on the first night which was nice, but the other restaurants are mainly seafood so the reception staff were really helpful and recommended restaurants and booked taxis for us.
The main shopping area is about a 20 min walk, which doesnt sound far but in the humidiity feels like miles, so get ...

A VERY GRAND HYATT!
Review of Grand Hyatt, Singapore by
Wackywaith
Advantages: Excellent location/Great Facilities/Very clean
Disadvantages: Grand Club staff a bit serious
**Background**
=
The Grand Hyatt is situated on Scotts Road. For those of you unfamiliar to SIngapore, this is in the prime zone for shopping. The main shopping street is called Orchard Road and Scotts Road intersects it. Both streets are bustling with people night and day and definitely the busiest place in Singapore. Taxis are usually available outside and the concierge will call one for you if there is a shortage. If you want to ... ...in the area but the Grand Hyatt seemed to fulfil our criteria really well. It was within budget and offered a suite at a decent price. We needed two rooms as we have two babies. Neighbouring hotels seem to charge exorbitant amounts for suites whereas the Grand Hyatt at $490+++ per night was much more reasonable. (160 GBp) **The Hotel**
Your first view will be a huge entrance hall which although very impressive seemed to be a waste of ...

Life Of Luxury if only for a Few Hours
Review of Raffles Hotel, Singapore by
elspeth334
Advantages: Life of Luxury
Disadvantages: Expensive
...tell you we stayed at Raffles Hotel during our visit to Singapore but unfortunately that would be a big fat lie. For me to stay in the fantastic hotel would require a lottery win or other such windfall
History
Raffles dated back to 1887 and was named after the founder of Singapore Sir Stamford Raffles. The hotel was founded by four Armenian brothers called Sarkies. The hotel was originally just a 10 bedroom colonial bungalow but over the years the ... ...as a Victorian style theatre. Raffles is world renowned be its luxurious accommodation and fabulous restaurants. Sad to say it was just a name to me until the TV programme Tenko which I loved filmed some scenes there. The hotel survived World War 11 and towards the end of the war was used as a transit camp for prisoners of war. In 1987 it was declared a national monument. The hotel closed down in 1989 and reopened after an extensive refurbishment ...

Great for business and overnight stays
Review of Fullerton Hotel, Singapore by
mgossin
Advantages: Location, location, location
Disadvantages: Service not 5*
I visited the Fullerton recently for a business stay - its 1 minute from Raffles Plaza, and the best location for the CBD. The first impressions are that it is going to be a really slick 5* hotel with all you would expect in terms of service. Check-in was efficient and they showed me up to the room which was a nice touch. They also remembered me when I returned. The service is certainly friendly and all the staff are polite and accomodating - only ... ...if I had remembered to take things out of the safe!
Taxis are plentiful outside the hotel (guest have a priority queue, which was only needed when raining!), the airport shuttles can drop you off and all taxi drivers know it. address: 1 Fullerton Square. see www.fullertonhotel.com ...
