In fact, the management has taken pains to re-create enclosures for animals that will most resemble their original habitat. It is a great place for children and adults alike. Trams take you on guided tours throughout the zoo and you are allowed to step on and off the trams after purchasing a ticket as many times as you like. You will be introduced to enclosures that may require you to go on foot for a closer view, and it is up to your own discretion which attractions in the zoo you choose to go to. There is a relatively new area designed specially for children where the zoo becomes more interactive, promoting the love of animals in children. Children get to touch and feel animals like chicks and rabbits, which may be common if you live in the countryside in England. However, one must understand that such animals are perhaps a rarity in Singapore owing to its heavily residential and commercial nature and the lack of space for open farms etc. There is also a large playground for children that includes a wading pool. The latest edition to the zoo is the Night Safari that is open from 7pm at night to 12 midnight. It boasts once again of animls kept in their natural enclosures and in fact as you take the tram rides through the night safari, you may even find some of these nocturnal creatures, scampering around hurridly about their business...
Close to the zoo is Mandai Lake and Reservoir. The scenery is great with loads of trees around this water catchment area. Watch out for mosquitoes but otherwise, it is a good place for a picnic or just a quiet stroll.

How many times have you gone to a zoo and found that most of the animals are asleep because they're nocturnal? If you've ever wondered what the animals get up to when it gets dark that head to Singapore's Night Safari.
Located next to Singapore's ZoologicalGardens the Night Safari is set in 40 hectares of wilderness and it's fantastic. The safari has so many different species - lions, leopards, rhinos, elephants, giraffes, tigers, otters, wolves, bats. Pretty much everything except monkeys and polar bears. Tickets are roughly £6 for adults and £3.50 for children. For about £1.70 extra you can take a tram ride around the zoo which I highly recommend. It opens at 7:30 pm and closes at midnight every day. I went there on Christmas Day 2004 after spending the day at the the zoo.
