Sixt is the most negligent and un-customer friendly car hire agency around. It's been 3 months and we are still dealing with their negligence.
First off, we made an online reservation for a diesel vehicle and upon retrieval at the Sixt Branch we received a verbal confirmation that the car we received was in fact diesel. Following that confirmation, we put diesel in the vehicle later that evening. Within two miles, the car broke down. After calling the breakdown assistance hotline noted on the receipt, we were told to wait for an hour for RAC assistance. We then had to wait for the next three hours in a garage in middle of a country lane for the vehicle to be drained and refilled. We were told by RAC that Sixt would cover the cost of the repair, but in fact, we had to pay for the repair plus extra for more petrol. We proceeded to drive 5 miles back to out guesthouse under very unsafe conditions, with the car bucking and breaks not functioning properly, down dark country lanes at 11pm.
We were told that in the morning the car would function normally, but it then broke down again as we exited out hotel parking lot. Over the following four hours, we were on the phone between RAC and Sixt, both claiming they had no authorization to send a replacement vehicle. The car broke down at 10am and it wasn’t until 2pm that the issue was resolved when RAC assistance arrived and restarted the vehicle.
We are completely unsatisfied with the way this issue was handled from the very start. Not only did we miss out on dinner and evening plans Friday night while sitting 3 hours in a garage, but we also felt very unsafe driving on dark country roads in a disfunctional vehicle. The cigarette charger was also broken as well so we had not use of our sat nav device. The following day we also missed two events that we flew 4000 miles to attend because of this issue—not to mention four hours of charges on both our home and mobile phones.
These mishaps occurred as a result of gross negligence on part of Sixt. Not only were we given verbal misinformation by a sale rep but the miscommunication and finger-pointing between RAC and Sixt was unacceptable.
We explained the situation to the manager at the branch and still more fingerpointing. Turns out he was fired, or left, before dealing with out case, which slipped through their cracks unsurprisingly, due to their disorganization and negligence...and in the meantime, the managed to withdraw EVEN MORE money off of our credit card, claiming we didnt pay in full on the day of rental. We were also told that there would be no admin fee if we received any tickets...WE did receive camera speeding ticket, and low and behold--Sixt charged us an admin fee, then failed to mail in the form to the police, so that we received threatening letters from the police because they thought we'd ignored their letters.
Despite the extra insurance we purchased; despite the lies and misinformation their negligent sales assistants are passing on to customers; despite being told by Sixt that RAC would cover the costs of the fuel drainage and repair, Sixt has STILL not resolved this issue and refunded the cost of the repair and 2 days rental fees that we requested.
It is shocking they are still in business, I highly recomment AVOIDING renting from Sixt at all costs!
