Skiathos (Greece)

Our first holiday to the Greek Isands, and we chose Skiathos, not really knowing much about the island or what to expect. One advantage is that it has its own airport, so you can fly in direct. If you are looking for a truly beautiful island, with excellent beaches (from the stunning Koukanari beach said to be the best in all Greece, to many more hidden bays only accessable by water taxi)then visit Skiathos.

The atmosphere is pleasantly laid back, the people are friendly and helpful. The feeling is generally peaceful, although perhaps more lively in Skiathos town itself. We visited the island last September, which is perhaps the best time to go - the temperatures still in the 80s and the sea hot enough to bathe, and the resorts are not over-crowded.
