Sky towers can be seen from where ever you are in Auckland so we never got lost. I would love to go back as we were made to feel so welcome, but it's too far on my own but I have lots of photos and wonderful memories.

My husband and I stayed three nights at sky tower in Auckland, New Zealand in 2005. The Sky Tower is 328 metres and the tallest building in the southern hemisphere.

To get to our room we went up in the lift on our arrival but the lift stopped at a much lower floor and wouldn't move. When we all trooped back to the front desk where we told that we had to insert our room card in a slot in the lift to access our floors, only guests were thus able to go near the rooms.
There are two brilliant casinos on two floors where I won lots of cash; all the restaurants serve lovely food, although they do seem to have a lot of Thai food.
On my birthday, my husband went up to the tower from where apparently you can see most of Auckland with views underneath your feet, thanks to the clear floor below. I hate heights so I spent a couple of hours playing the slots where I won two jackpots of 800 dollars so when my husband came down, we had a beautiful meal.
He enjoyed his trip up to the viewing platform but desperately wanted to try a bungee jump from the lower platform. We watched young and old jumping at various times, their friends and relations busy taking photos. I was against my husband trying as he was 67 and I thought he'd have a heart attack, in hindsight I'm sorry I said no as he died last year of a brain tumour.

I would take my 16 year old granddaughter, but not my 13 year old granddaughter as there's not much for her to do. My 16 year old granddaughter would appriate all the landscapes but the 13 year old would need more stimulation.
Recommend it to everyone, but there's not much stuff for children to do.
Advantages: lots to do, beautiful, undeniably worth seeing Disadvantages: NONE WHAT SO EVER
...and i've been to the sky tower countless times and i never get tired of it. you get a beautiful view of auckland city, you can dine in the rotating resteraunt and get a full view of everything surrounding the tower. you can choose to bungy jump of the tower or take a picture where they make it LOOK like you are bungy jumping off. there are a wide range of souvenirs you can buy and the tower itself is beautiful and truly worth seeing. there is casino ... ...can see everything beneath you (some people are too scared to stand on those). personally, i love the elevator, it' s very fast and you get a full view of what's outside the tower. the sky tower is definitely worth visiting and the people in New Zealand are very friendly! ...

Advantages: Views Disadvantages: You will not want to leave
...to Auckland then visiting the Sky Tower is a must do! It is not that expensive to go up and once you are up the tower the views are amazing. You go up in an elevator, and when you get to the top you enter the main circular observatory tower which has massive glass windows all the way around giving you a 360 degrees view of Auckland, some of the best views are of the world famous harbour and Mount Eden, a dormant volcano. If you are the dare-devil ...

Advantages: Easy to find!!! Disadvantages: Nothing that comes to mind
We visited the Sky Tower to gain a different view of Auckland and were rewarded with an awesome view.We took lots of photos all the way round and planned where to go during our stay in the city. It was nice to see where we'd been over in Devon port earlier that day and the bridge looked great from up high . You can walk all the way round and even walk over glass panels in the flooring! ( not for the faint hearted) if you're even braver bungee jump ...

Advantages: Spectacular Views, great service, excellent food Disadvantages: none
I am a New Zealander who has been living in the UK for about 8 months. This was one of our favourite 'special occasion' restaurants back home. It is situated at the top of the SkyTower, an Auckland landmark, and is a revolving restaurant
An a la carte restaurant, the menu changes quite frequently, therefore any of the past dishes I have had, they will probably not be serving. I am a real fan of seafood and have had many seafood dishes (steamed mussels, tuna steak, snapper, hapuka) and these are the meals that stick out in my mind. I have had entrees, mains, desserts and cheeseboards and have never once been disappointed.
Prices are reasonable for a fine dining establishment, entrees $16-20 and mains £29-30 approx. There is a minimum charge of $25/head, but this is easily reached. The trip to the top of the tower (normally ...
Advantages: Great place to see views of city Disadvantages: It is a city and New Zealand is so much more beautiful to go rural
General over view:
Auckland was my first destination when I arrived in New Zealand, traveling into the city and seeing the SkyTower for the first time was really cool, I remember thinking I made it! I am really here!! The City is big but easy to get around using the tram system they have in place. It is a very clean and friendly city, if you don't have long I would recommend a couple of days here.
The SkyTower is the main thing to see and do and is a great place to get great views, I also recommend taking a ferry trip to one of the near by islands. A great hint and tip for you is to take the Stray Bus free city tour, this was great to see what Auckland has to offer you, and you can book onto the tour through your hostel. They pick you up from the hostel and first take you to the SkyTower, here they will ask if anyone wants to ...
and I was more than satisfied with the service they provided. Similar companies include Stray and the Kiwi Experience.
How Much Time:
How much do you have?? You could spend a few weeks just doing one island or 6 weeks doing both or a few months to a years working visa, whatever trip you do you will not be disappointed with what you see! I think both islands are spectacular offering very different things and they are both worth a visit.

Auckland:
I started my trip in Auckland, I would advise only spending a couple of days in this city, and the main highlight is the SkyTower. The SkyTower is a great place to view the city from, I went up at about 6.30pm just the right time to see the view in both day and night, and it is a spectacular view. If you are feeling brave you can also do a Sky Jump (Similar to ...
