There are plenty of trolleys to use which are free of charge. Once you have your luggage it's a struggle to get through the crowds to leave the airport but a big relief.
GOING HOME
We got dropped off right outside the departure area and had to wait for our check-in desk number to appear on the screens, which took approximately 20 minutes. Once again, there was too many people in a too small space.
As soon as the check-in number appeared, there was a massive rush to the desk.
Luckily, we got to the front of the queue and managed to request a window seat. The staff were pleasant but not over-friendly (although it was 3am).
There are 2 areas to go through passport control and security, which we didn't have to wait too long for.

...on a recent trip to lanzarote. we checked in 4 cases and a trolley. when we landed in manchester the trolley was first off and then 3 cases followed and we waited an hour for the last case. This was similar with alot of other people as well. what amazed me was that the trolley was checked in seperately and my cases were checked in together. we was dead chuffed when the cases come off till we realised that one case was delayed because the bagage handlers had run out of trolleys to transport our cases? obviously we need to speed up the process if other countries in the EU can deliver better service why can,t we after all Manchester airport is a state of the art airport...

Advantages: Daily direct flights from UK at reasonable cost Disadvantages: Not much to do with a lot of time to kill
...I arrived at Newark airport from Manchester on 5th September this year.
No problem there, and made our way into the arrivals lounge. Lounge - sorry I must have used the word kindly. It was a huge hall where we were ordered to stand in long lines until ordered which desk to present our immigration papers and passports. Slick, quick but not over friendly.
The second stage was the search, or lack of it - still, quite painless, although the people that were stopped were directed to a desk marked agriculture and food - couldn't understand the logic there, I honestly thought we were just holiday makers!!
Finally made it into the public area, where we had to dump our luggagetrolley, and proceed to make the descent down an escalator with the cases and hand luggage to the carpark area. Not easy if you had children or elderly. Surely...
