Smiths of Smithfield has just opened up on Charterhouse Street in the middle of the meat market. Headed up by This Morning chef, John Torode, it offers all that is good about going out. Four floors of food and drink - the downstairs market cafe serves bacon butties and juices at 7am right and the bar rocks until closing with lots of comfy leather sofas to slob out on. The first floor cocktail bar offers a frightening array of mindblowing drinks, all served by smiley unpretentious staff in exposed brick and timber setting with red leather banquettes.
Onto food, the second floor dining room is packed for lunch and dinner, and has a great atmosphere as well as chunky staples such as cod and mash, steak and chips, asparagus, 'lucky' chilli squid and great trifles, baked pears and organic icecream. The top floor will open at the end of July and promises to serve up all that is delicious and pleasing - with JT at the helm and a 30 ft south facing deck to sleep off the excess wine.
Smiths is fantastic - if you haven't been there yet - go now!

I agree that this is an OK venue but sometimes the staff can be dreadful. We were being served by the head waiter and he kept speaking and giving orders to other staff whilst we were trying to give our order. This is not the level of service that I would expect from somewhere that is supposed to be half decent.
