Not being a city chick and being taken out for dinner in the big smoke by an old friend, I was ready to put on my best bib and tucker along with my finest airs and graces!! Especially at a restaurant owned by John Torodes. On arrival at SOS I was glad to be met by a large number of people supping their way through beer and wine and talking nine to the dozen, in the bar area on the ground floor. Next floor up is the Cocktail bar and the 2nd floor was where we were eating. I ordered a duck salad followed by the crispy pork on a bed of mash - both of which were beautiful, especially the crackling on the pork. My dinner date ordered lucky squid and a steak which was so fantastically cooked you barely got time to chew before it had melted in your mouth. Now girls, the pudding - you just have to have the little chocolate pot. The chocolate caramel on the base is out of this world...... A 3 course dinner for two with a bottle of Chardonnay and a couple of bottles of mineral water was £70 but who cares I wasn't paying which made things better, but Smiths is well worth visiting for some amazing dishes and a lovely busy chatty atmosphere!!
