Having been stuck at a loose end on a saturday Morning my boyfriend and I decided on a drive to Nantwich to have a walk around Bridgemere Garden Centre and Stapeley Water Gardens. We had passed Snugbury's which is located on the Chester A51 outside Nantwich a few times but never stopped to take a look but this weekend I managed to persuade him otherwise, plus I was hungry.........
I have to admit that I am not a huge fan of Icecream but Snugbury's is delicious, they have over 30 flavours that are constantly changing and cost GBP1.50 for a large sugar cone and 2 scoops of ice cream. I opted for the banana caramel option which was heavenly not too sickly, my boyfriend however chose the lemon meringue flavour and also stated how nice the flavour was.
It is free to visit Snugbury's farm and not only do they serve cones but they also sell take home tubs which are fairly reasonably priced at GBP2.50 for a 1 litre tub.
I cannot fault the choice of ice cream flavours there and the taste is out of this world but what I feel is lacking there is somewhere to sit there were two benches outside of the farm shop and whilst I was there, which was approximately 5.30pm (they are currently open until 6pm in the summer) there were over half a dozen cars, it is situated just off the main road and considering this it is quite relaxing you are limited on places to sit and relax other than inside your car and if you have been on a long drive this is less than ideal. You can see the cows grazing in the adjacent field and if you are feeling brave take a walk in the field to view the statue made of hay which is currently a ferris wheel, apparantly each year this changes.
Obviously there is only so much that you can see at an ice cream factory but it was not advertised anywhere on how the ice cream is made and how they create the flavours on offer, I did pick up a leaflet whilst being served and they stated that Group Tours are welcome in the evening all year round and I can only assume this would provide the above.
Snugbury's is conveniently located enroute to Chester/Nantwich it is well worth the visit to sample the delicious flavours but if you are planning a day trip to visit just the ice cream farm you will not find much to entertain this would be extremely difficult to access should you not have your own method of transport as it does not appear to be on a local bus route.
Great for children if you want to break up a car journey with an ice cream but I would imagine within 2 minutes of choosing the ice cream flavour and eating it they WILL be bored.
