Following the events of the Sharm El Shiek bombings you have to have a police export wherever you go. The rooms are spectacular with plenty of luxury even in the standard room i was staying in. When i visited this hotel i only went for a week. Arriving at the very small but organised taba airport was very nice and quick. Following the events of the Sharm El Shiek bombings you have to have a police export wherever you go. The rooms are spectacular with plenty of luxury even in the standard room i was staying in. All rooms i noticed have a sea view, some better than others. The resturant has nice food although the service doesnt live up to its 5 star rating. Alot of the food runs out after the first hour and rarely gets topped up voluntarily. The waitors are very helpful if they get tipped. The pool is huge and very refreshing in the blistering mid-day sun. There are also jacuzzis and a saltwater pool. The beach is nice although to get the best sunbeds you have to get up at about 6 o'clock as the Russians and West Europeans seem to bargain these before you are awake. Walking along the beach you pass such hotels as the Marriot and Hyatt Regency which all look nice although not as luxurious as sofitel. When i went (oct/nov) the sun rises at about 5.30 and sets at 5.00. Meening to get the best of your holiday you have to get up early otherwise the day seems to escape you. It is also very good that it is all inclusive which includes meals, drinks and pizzas! If you do think of going you should take alot of spare change as EVERYONE WANTS TIPS and is part of the Egyptian culture. Everyone will expect to recieve a tip, even the cleaner and if they dont get one they will hassel you into it. They also give you the opportunity to go on daily trips at an extra expense but you do need to hand over your passport for all of these trips. Unfortunately i didnt go on any of these trips as i was only going for 1 week. As you have probably heard, the red sea is excellent for snorkelling and has a wide range of underwater wildlife even at a shallow depth. I reccomend taking an underwater camera to capture these fantastic memories. There are tennis courts and a football pitch and if you have rackets take them!
Overall apart from a few exceptions i think this is a great hotel.
Advantages: All inclusive, snorkelling and diving, good rooms, private beach, great views over mountains Disadvantages: Concretey, beach is pebbly and course, spread over a large area
We went to the Sofitel Taba Heights as a family get-together by the sea. It is a very concrete resort spread over an area of coastline, and has its own private beach, which is rather pebbly so I would recommend buying beach/swimming shoes. The sand also gets very hot in summer and is too hot to walk on without damaging your feet. The snorkelling is excellent. We swam off the Sofitel's jetty and were amazed when the first thing we saw was a blue spotted ... ...had the salads! Overall, I would recommend the Sofitel Taba Heights to anyone who likes snorkelling (although there are pools too) and diving (there's a nearby dive centre, called waterworld, which offers free transport to and from the hotels. The food is fine and the all inclusive is excellent! ...
