My Florence experience

Advantages: Must-go Italian city
Disadvantages: No

last stop in Florence-the Accademia Gallery . The Accademia Gallery is perhaps best-known for Michelangelo's David, removed after four centuries from Piazza Signoria, now exhibited in a specially constructed hall. Other works by Michelangelo include some of his "Slave" series and his sculpture of San Matteo. Also featured is an impressive collection of paintings from the 13th to 16th century. ...

Fabulous Florence

Advantages: Beauty. History, Culture. Good food and wine
Disadvantages: Expensive. Crowded with tourists.

the de' Medici Villa in Rome to the Uffizi. You will discover some of the finest Renaissance art in the world in the Uffizi gallery. There is one huge room which houses the work of Sandro Botticelli (1445-1510) including his much admired Birth of Venus, The Magnificat Madonna, Portrait of Lucrezia and Primavera. The National Museum of the Bargello houses a priceless collection of Tuscan Renaissance sculptures by Cellini, Giambologna and Verrocchio as well as some of Michelangelo's early works such as his bust of Brutus (1504). You could spend days touring the art galleries and museums of Florence but you must reserve some time for visiting ...

One Day In Florence

Advantages: A must-see when in Italy.
Disadvantages: Other tourists know that, too.

up early when on hols? The expected handful turned out to be approximately one thousand, when I had reached the end of the queue, I was already in a different quarter of the city! Who were these early birds? At a guess about 80% were Japanese, maybe they hadn’t overcome their jet lag yet and didn’t find it early at all. As I had already been to the Uffizi twice before, I didn’t wait, but followed my alternative programme. If you decide not to go in you can come with me, I’ll show you which other sights you can see and how to get a feeling for the city and the people. We’ll start on the Piazzale Michelangelo, the so-called balcony of Florence. When you come by car from Siena you pass it; if you arrive by train, take Bus 12 or 13 (it takes about 10 to 15 minutes). There’s a booth for bus tickets ...
