M*A*S*H Season One

Advantages: Funny, witty with a serious side on occasions
Disadvantages: fake laughs - they can be turned off though

M*A*S*H is based on a Mobile Army Surgical Hospital during the Korean War. I didn't think I would like this as its quite an old series and it was first broadcast in 1972 and I didn't enter the world for some 6 years after, it never really appealed to me. However, my partner loves it, so though I would give it a try. The first season primarily introduces you to the characters in the show from the Colonel Henry Blake to Chief Surgeon Hawkeye Pearce to Company Clerk Radar O'Reilly. A valiant attempt is made via black humour to show the team spirit that was imperative for a M*A*S*H unit to function. We are given glimpses into the main characters personal lives and their personalites, for example, Hawkeye's admiration for his father and for the nurses and Frank's (Surgeon) utter childish behaviour and desire to please Hotlips (Chief ...

W.A.S.P. Bad Ass 80's Metal

Advantages: SOME OF THE BEST 80's METAL RIFFS EVER. TRUE ROCK AND ROLL!
Disadvantages: SOME WEAK SONGS. BUT MADE UP FOR BY OTHER AMAZING ONES.

When it comes to doing reviews of music, I can focus more on the actual music of the album in a more isolated way, or the band and their previous musical efforts. Unless you are a fan of the band, it seems pointless to write extensively about the previous work aside from drawing a comparison. So I shall review this album for "WASP virgins", who have never heard their music before. Here goes... First, of all, the band W.A.S.P. which allegedly stands for White Anglo-Saxon Protestants, are not from the Bible belt! This is definitely NOT Christian Rock/Metal! Blackie Lawless (the lead vocalist) is not the name you would give to a man of virtue and purity. Quite the opposite. That out the way, let's focus on the type of music that the band play. First a little bit of history is required to explain their sound. With bands ...

Hotel International

Advantages: Location, breakfasts
Disadvantages: Poor rooms

I recently went on a cultural girlie trip with a friend to Paris. I was left to do all the booking. I was looking for a reasonable hotel, near a metro stop, which included breakfast. I came across the Hotel International on various travel sites and it seemed fairly highly rated so I booked us in for three nights. LOCATION: The hotel is located 6 Rue Auguste Barbier in the 11th Arrondissement. The nearest Metro stop is Garcourt which was a two minute walk away and it was a five minute walk to Republique which gives good links to other lines. It's not really central enough to avoid the Metro and walk to the attractions but it was located so close to a stop that it seemed ideal. PRICE: Prices vary depending on size of room and season. There are singles, doubles and triples available. We paid Euro254 for the whole time ...
