When we decided on a week away in January we chose the Sol Magalluf Park hotel as it came highly recommended, and we certainly werent disappointed. The location of the hotel is just behind the famous Magulluf Strip of infamous depending on your point of view however in January this is not relevant as most of the clubs and bars were closed. On arrival check in was very efficient with three members of staff behind reception and soon we had the key card to room 516 in our hand plus a card which was to be shown in the restaurant as we were half board and we were pointed in the direction of the lifts. The hotel has 422 rooms on 10 floors and 4 lifts which is fine when the hotel was only half full but I think it might be a problem when the hotel is full.
The Room It was a typical Spanish hotel room which had a two single beds put together to look like an extra big double between to bedside cabinets which held the phone and the usual picture over the bed. The bedspread and curtains were in a light cream patterned material and the floor was tiled. There was air conditioning/heating plus a ceiling fan which when put to its highest setting was like a force ten gale. The built in wardrobes had full mirror doors and one had the safety deposit box in it which had a charge payable at reception I think it was about 15 euros with a small deposit back. On the desk was the television which had limited satellite channels., and over the desk was another mirror plus under it was padded stool. There was also one padded chair and of course the balcony with two chairs and a table and a view over the House of Katmandu.
The Bathroom It must have had one of the biggest bathrooms I have ever had in Spain with the usual toilet, bidet, bath with overhead shower and sink with vanity unit mirror and another small stool. The towels were changed ever day and were white and fluffy. The radiator was rusty and the door was hard to open and it could have done with a refurbish to be honest but perfectly adequate for a week.
The Restaurant What can I say the food was wonderful and set out buffet style with lots of choice there really was something for everyone. I could be here all day if I started to tell you all about it suffice to say there was hot and cold choice at every meal and the waiter service removing your used plates and serving drinks was fantastic. It was never too crowed but remember the hotel was only half full and no children not sure how it would be in high season.
The Bar The bar was massive and had entertainment every night, there was everything from Flamenco shows, Mime artistes, Musicians, Free bingo every night, Dancing and the best Magic act I have seen. Entertainment started at 8.30 and went on until midnight. There were also pool tables, fruit machines and four computers with internet costing 2 euro for half an hour. There was a separate lounge for smokers which I believe had another pool table and darts. There was also a card room with a bridge club and even weight watchers meetings ( after the buffet I am not surprised that was required). There was a quiet lounge area at the entrance to the dining room which had a water feature maybe thats why the toilets were also located close by.
Outside Area There were three pools, 1 large pool ,one childrens pool and an indoor heated pool which is open in the winter. There were lots of sun beds and tables and chairs the snack bar is not open in winter. The entertainment continued outside with a varied programme every day events included French Bowls, Bowls, ten pin bowls, table tennis, darts, rifle shooting, pistol shooting and archery to name a few all under the watchful eye of the activities team. We were out and about most days and admit to just watching the bowlers on our return but long stay holiday makers were having great fun joining in the activities.
Other features Mobility scooters could be hired by the week in this hotel and I am not sure if you need to request this on booking but several peoples made use of them. Books and magazines are left and can be exchanged at the tour reps desk Luggage on day of departure can be placed in a secure room and a room is made available for showers if you have a late flight. The hotel also has a garden with a bridge over a pool which was full of goldfish with lead to more sports areas basketball, tennis and volleyball court. The customer service desk was in the reception area and was manned all day and helped with any queries you might have they also phoned the day after arrival to check up we were happy with everything so far and welcoming us.
Location is very good just a few hundred yard to the beach with shops, restaurants, pubs and clubs nearby. The bus stop is also very handy for trips out of town and being just at the start of Magalluf it is perfect for a stroll into Palma Nova. We were blessed with perfect weather in January with the temperature reaching 70 degrees it was the perfect retreat for a winter break.I highly recommend a visit to this hotel

Must say I like places out of season, as I hate them being too busy, but you do need some things open. We've got some sunshine today between showers, but it's still cold! Jo x
