We went on holiday to Majorca for 10 days in July and stayed at the Sol Trinidad hotel in Magaluf. We have been to Magaluf in the past and stayed at a Sol hotel which we really liked and so decided to give this one a go. We booked it off teletext and stayed half-board.

The hotel has 375 rooms spread over 9 floors, we had a pool view room on the forth floor which was quite handy as the two (very small!) lifts were out of action a few times and I was grateful for only having to climb four flights of stairs.

It is situated a 2 minute walk across the road to the beach, and the road along the front of the hotel has lots of shops (clothes, souvenirs, booze, fags etc) and the road behind mainly bars and BCM the major nightclub where Radio 1 were doing there live weekend while we were there. It is a 5 minute walk to the strip where all the really lively bars and clubs are.

We arrived at about 11.30am in the morning and had a short queue at reception to be served by the miserable receptionist, who photocopied our passports and gave us two key cards for the room. We also got a safe for about €20 (incl €3 dep.) but he gave us the wrong key at first so we (well, the boyfriend) had to go back to get the right one.

The room

The room was really nice. You had to put one of the key cards in a slot to get the electric on (but we discovered you could stick anything in it to get it going after the maid left a clothes label in it one day). It had twin beds pushed together with a bedside table either side. There was also a desk and a bench where you could stick your suitcases, or like me just chuck your clothes on when you get in. The wardrobe space wasn't that big, my boyfriend had trouble hanging up all his T-shirts and shirts, it had one normal space for shirts etc then a mini hanging space, where I hung two skirts. There were about four shelves to fold clothes which was fine for me, although the safe did take up a chunk of one of the shelves. I have to say though that I don't know if the room had been vacant for a while or the maids just didn't clean in there but the shelves were so dusty we had to wipe them off before we could put our clothes in there.

There was a ceiling fan above the bed which kept the room nice and cool. There was also a TV in room, which I believe there was four English channels. There were sliding doors leading onto the balcony which had two plastic chairs and a table and a nice view over the pool. The bathroom had a shower over bath but no extractor fan so it got really hot in there. There was a bottle of shower gel and shampoo attached to the wall but the shower gel was empty the whole time we were there, there was also no soap which I found slightly annoying.

The maids came in and swept the floors and made the bed everyday but I don't think they mopped at all. I will give them there due though as one day we came back to the room after a day at the beach and went to sit on the balcony, my boyfriend looked up and saw a huge cockroach sitting on the wall of the balcony (this was the only one we saw during our stay but I can't believe it picked on us two whimps!). We ran into the room and shut the door before it could crawl in, and I rang reception to say it was in our room and could someone help! A maid came within about 5 minutes and sprayed it with Raid, swept it up and took it away. I was very grateful.

Amenities

The hotel had two pools, an adult pool and a kids pool. I spent most of my time in the kids pool as you could lie in and really cool down. There were sun loungers but not enough for the amount of guests so if you hadn't got one by about 10am you would have to go to the beach. There was also a ping pong table outside and a couple of pool table indoors. The reps put on entertainment through out the day, including shooting, darts, water polo, ping pong. There was also a kids club. There was nightly entertainment but we never saw this but I could hear the mini disco start around 9pm then Bingo and then there main show about 9.45pm. There was an indoor and outdoor bar. There was also four computers you could use (chargeable) which people seemed to be on all time looking at Facebook!

On the last day we had to check out by midday but our flight wasn't until midnight. There was a locked room to put our luggage in and if you asked they gave you a key to a room where you could shower (available 3pm - 8pm).

The Buffet

We were half-board so got breakfast (8.30am - 10am) and dinner (6.30pm-9.30pm). It was all buffet style and breakfast was the normal cereals, cakes, ham, cheese, fruit and fry up. The fried eggs were cooked how you liked them so you could ask for the egg man to turn it over it you prefer it more solid, but he did seem to be in a rage one morning and shouting Spanish at everyone so I just took a runny one! There were fruit juices and a coffee/tea machine which a selection of tea bags.

The evening buffet was quite good compared to some that you can get. There was a pizza & pasta bar with three choices of each, a salad bar and cold meats. There were also plenty of hot options which changed daily including, fish, pork, pies, paella, burgers and there were two things cooked fresh on the grill in front of you. There were also a vegetarian and diet option available each night and they did specially themed nights too. There was also a range of desserts including cakes, fruit and ice-cream.

My Opinion

We had a really good time here and enjoyed ourselves but I don't think it's a hotel (or place) for everyone. The guests were all groups of male or female, or couples and we only saw a couple of families with young kids although we did go before the school holidays. It was quite noisy with people playing load music in there rooms and obviously coming back at all times of the night banging doors but if you've had enough to drink yourself you'll be well away and so it won't wake you up or you'll be the one out til all hours! The location of the hotel is excellent, just over the road from the beach, staggering distance for the bars and lots of shops. It is about a 15 minute walk to the two water parks and go karting, and 10 to the famous pirate show. Palma is about a 20 minute taxi ride. The hotel staff aren't the friendliest but get the job done, but the entertainment reps more than make up for them and if you want to be kept entertained there is plenty to do.

If I was to go back I would definitely stay here again and would recommend it for couples and groups especially and families if you don't mind noise but there may be more family/kid friendly hotels in the area.

Have tried to upload photos but doesn't seem to be working so will try to add later.
