Earlier this year I booked a holiday through Sykes holidaycottages to Biffins Berth in Whitby for August 2009. The cottage was shown in the brochure to be one of three and was described as having an enclosed communal garden. When we arrived we found that we were on a holiday site with approx 50 other properties of which there had been no mention and that our enclosed communal garden was actually the site playground complete with bbq. In my opinion this should have been mentioned, we went there with two young children and a dog, the dog could not even go outside because of other holidaymakers children and the playground was used until very late at night (noisily).
It is my view that Sykes do not care once they have your money and will fob you off at every turn, be very aware that they don't mention all the relevant details in ...

We booked a cottage through Sykes cottages in Wales and found the property owners lived in the basement - they could hear everything we were doing. This was not explained in the brochure and when we queried it before arriving - problems with arranging key collection made us suspicious - we were told not to be so silly and of course the owners didn't live at the property.
In addition to this the property was not up to scratch - not clean (the worst being blood found under toilet seat), antiquated heating system, inadequate smoke alarms, strange things happening with electrics etc.
To top it all we also found fleas throughout the property that left us with numerous bites to our legs - the property was advertised as pet free but the owners used the property during the winter and had a dog!

My mum and her partner have spent a couple of holidays now at a location near Bala in North Wales - the location in question, Pen Cefn, boasts four properties for rent, each of differing proportions. This year, mum decided to treat me (because I reached the big 40) and my sister and her family to a week long holiday in one of the properties. Having had a superb time, I thought it was time to pass the news on to others.
