Advantages: within 1.5 km of Kos Town, quiet, plenty of sunbeds as a lack of guests. Disadvantages: rude staff, dirty/filthy rooms, poor A/C, poor plumbing

After a week there it broke down completely, taking 2 days of constant complaining before they would call out an engineer. After he left it still was rubbish.
The fridge door was rusty, all the shelves were broken, and the freezer section resembled Siberia, with ice of over 3" thick. ...about 8 days out of 14, no floors were washed, the bathroom was never cleaned, had black fungus on the walls, and ceiling. Shower was also black, and the dirt on the shower hose about 10 mm thick. It was so bad my 8 year old refused to use it.
Beds were comfy enough, although sheets were often ripped, and only changed once a week, despite notice promising every 3 days.

Maid service was poor, floor was swept about 8 days out of 14, no floors were washed, the bathroom was never cleaned, had black fungus on the walls, and ceiling. Shower was also black, and the dirt on the shower hose about 10 mm thick. It was so bad my 8 year old refused to use it.

TV remote control was 20 euros a week. To make sure you paid for it the staff had removed all the buttons off the TV. We used wooden cocktail sticks thankfully as we found you could only get 2 Greek channels, and Fashion TV.
Reception staff were friendly, striking up a conversation when you passed. However they also very quickly became outright horrible and unhelpful if you had a problem. At one point I had to walk away as the guy was trying to provoke me into lashing out at him. In the end I took all complaints to them and to the rep (chocolate fireguard comes to mind).
Owner of the hotel was actually heard telling guests to f*** off and not come back as they had been using the bar next door. One day he refused to serve a bunch of guys who tried to order a drink because they were staying at the hotel next door (which was far better).
Immediate area is very quiet, and I think this may have led to huge cut backs in the their staffing levels, and ability to be friendly.
Quick update: as the time of booking this was rated as a four star hotel. However by the time of complaining to Direct Holidays it had been rated as a 3 star. I would not even rate it as a 2 star personally.

Quick review of Sophia Beach Aparthotel, Kos
Apartment wasn't the best but it was close to the beach and have a lovely family restaurant down the road called Taverna Efkalipty. Would recommend a vsisit here where ever you stay in Lambi. It's close to beach and open air, but enough shelter from the sun as I went in May and it was reaching 27/28C but it does get really hot in the summer months with very little rain. ...

Advantages: friendly staff, close to beach Disadvantages: small pool, poorly equipt
I stayed here for two weeks at the beginning of august. The staff are very friendly and always strike up a conversation with you as you are passing through reception. the aparentments are located close to the centre of the resort and about a 1 minute walk to the beach. was very disapointed about the size of the pool area. there are about 40 sunbeds and for more than 200 rooms is not enough. there were 3 parasols for all of these beds. was very crwded. ... ...there was a great minimarket at reasonable prices and much to do outside the hotel, which is good meaning we didnt spend much time there. we also found the pool bar was enclosed - not what the brochure said, so it got rather stuffy. apart from that great holiday was had , would recommend kos and the resort, but not the hotel. also pool bar sold very cheap, yummy food ...

Advantages: quiet location, near beach, easy reach of Kos town centre Disadvantages: bar closed at set time and lights were turned out even if you had 1 or 2 drinks keft
We stayed here Sept 2005 for 1 week.the location was excellent 5-10mins walk to Kos town centre and about 5 mins to the main beach. our room was a studio and was very large compared to the other studios i've stayed in before. the room had a tv but only showed greek programmes although there was mtv as well. we had plenty of space for all our things and if we had wanted to, there was a large dining table as well. snack bar was very reasonable had ... ...and was always piping hot., pool was quite small definitley not for those who like a decent swim- i was ok as i use the pool to cool down in. bar closed every nt bout 1am regardless of how many people were around and all the lights were turned off as well so we were left in the dark on a couple of occasions with 1 or 2 drinks! bottle of mthos was 3 euro. were cheaper bars around bout 2.50 euro.bar was open plan but would pulldown side panels if they ...

Advantages: Great location for the young party animals Disadvantages: Very samll pool for the amount of holiday makers
The Sophia Beach hotel is a very well managed hotel. It is clean and the staff are very freindly and helpful.Sophia beach is situated on the outskirt sof Kos Town just outlining the area of Bar street 2, So if you are looking for a quiet holiday it may not be for you. Although the rooms and apartments are spacious and well looked after the pool and outside area could do with a little attention, the pool it'self is not big enough especially if a few ... ...be pushing it to get more the 3 inflatables in the pool at any one time.
This should not put you off ,the beach is a short walk away and the local bus stop just at the end of the road to get you and about. Car hire is available at reception along with push bike and moped hire. ...
