Definatly a grand hotel!
Advantages: Clean, Good food, Friendly staff, Gay friendly Disadvantages: Noise from the roads if your room is at the front
I have stayed in this Hotel twice now, once with just me and my ex partner, and once with him and my daughter.
This is a lovely hotel.
Really nice atmosphere.
The decortaing around the hotel is nice, just the rooms could do with updating a bit.
But they are by no means dirty or too old fashioned.
The rooms have tv, balcony, fridge and a safe for your money.
The hotel is very clean, and I know this is random, but has the most lovely smell inside.
... ...sized.
There are lots of sun beds and chairs around the pool.
There is a snack bar, where you can get crisps, ice creams and also get meals at lunch time.
It is good because if by the end of your holiday your getting sick of Italian food, this is great because aswel as Italian dishes, they do burger and chips and things like that.
There is one bar in the hotel.
The staff are lovely here.
But the drinks are expensive.
You pay your bar bill at ...

The Grand Hotel Flora, Sorrento
Advantages: Friendly staff and atmosphere, Clean and well managed, lovely food Disadvantages: could maybe have more evening entertainment at the bar
I really feel that this photo does not do the hotel justice. Myself and my husband have stayed in this hotel for both our trips to Italy, and it has been a very enjoyable experience both times. The hotel itself i feel lives up to its name, especially the staircase and stunning chandelier and staircase in the main reception. The views of mount Vesuvius and the bay of Naples from the top of the hotel restaurant were breathtaking, especially at sunset. ... ...efficiant and you got a little feel on the Italian culture through food and the way of the staff. The rooms were simple, and not too cluttered, having the essentials such as fridge, safe and air conditioning, as well as sky TV. The room was cleaned every day to a high standard, and fresh towels put in. The balcony overlooked the side of the hotel, but we didnt hear too much from the road, which was good. The pool was clean and well kept. We didnt ...

Esperidi - better than I hoped
Advantages: Modern, lovely room, great public spaces Disadvantages: Pool closes early, no atmosphere in restaurant
...a week, the stay at Esperidi wasn't cheap but as accommodation on this coast is generally fairly expensive, I was happy to pay this.
The nearest small beach is around 200 yards away - as with most of the Amalfi coast it is a climb down (and obviously back up!) so could be quite a challenge for those with small children, older people or anyone who has difficulty walking - I was told that some of the beaches have lifts so it might be worth checking ... ...From Sorrento harbour you can take a ferry to the Island of Capri (12.50 Euros each way) or down the stunning coastline to the busy port of Salerno . Other great days out are Naples, Vesuvius and Pompeii which are all within 30-40 minutes away. A drive down the Amalfi coastline is also not to be missed although you may spend most of it with your eyes closed - Positano and Amalfi are well worth a stop although you may want to go on an organised trip ...

Expensive but nice
Advantages: Great location. Disadvantages: Doesn't really cater for young children
We booked this hotel through first choice as a package holiday - it worked out at just over £2000 for 2 adults and a 1 year old for 2 weeks half board. You can book this hotel privately and while we were there they were advertising rooms starting at £79 per room per night. The hotel is situated just outside Sorrento centre. It's on the main road and is within easy walking distance to the centre (about 800 metres) but far enough away for it not to ... ...great location, you have a wonderful view, it's easy to get to the centre and it's quiet enough at night. You will need to cross the main road to get to the centre as there is only a pavement on one side of the road. You really do need to cross at the pedestrain crossing but don't take it for granted that the traffic will stop - you could be stood there for a while. The first impression of the hotel is when you pull up the drive in the coach, it's ...

Good value in a brilliant town
Advantages: Pool, friendly staff, value for money Disadvantages: Rooms a little out-dated
...and breakfasts were good. The hotel is 600m from the sea - the supposed 'sea views' in some of the rooms aren't much to write home about. All in all a good basic hotel, and reasonably good value for Sorrento.
The hotel's website is http://www.hotelvillamaria.it/english/albergo.htm which has full pictures though doesn't seem to have been updated recently as it is still showing 2004 room rates! ...
