SOUTH LAKELAND PARKS

We have owned our static caravan now for five years. As we are retired we spend most of the year in the caravan on our Holiday Home Park at Glasson Dock near to the city of Lancaster.
Our park is part of South Lakeland Parks, which has been in existence since 1988.

For anybody who is considering purchasing their own holiday home or simply taking a holiday at one of the parks I thought that I would share my experiences of South Lakeland Parks.

South Lakeland Parks is based in Kendal and all their parks are set in the Lake District, Morecambe Bay and Ribble Valley in either lakeside, seaside and/or countryside locations, they have nine different locations ranging from smaller caravan parks to larger holiday villages.
THE PARKS

Lakeside Settings

Fallbarrow

This is a lovely park that is located on the shore of Lake Windermere, it is set amongst the trees of a lovely lakeside country estate and has a boat slipway and jetty if you are interested in sailing. The facilities there include a Café and Deli that serve locally produced products along with a fully stocked shop selling fresh local produce and basic everyday goods, the Boathose bar - great for eating of an evening, a multi-activity play area and outdoor games for children.
With all the attractions of Windermere and Bowness this park is in a really lovely location.
White Cross Bay

White Cross Bay is also situated on the shores of Lake Windermere with breathtaking views over the lake and surroundings.
There are plenty of facilities there including an indoor heated swimming pool with sauna and gym, a children's play area, picnic area and plenty beautiful woodland for you to explore.
There are restaurants, bars and take away facilities on site. Sailing and water sports enthusiasts can enjoy one of the finest marinas in the area at White Cross Bay and we offer one of the best boat launching facilities on Lake Windermere.
This is a lovely park as you can spend all your time in there or choose to explore the beautiful surroundings.

Countryside

Todber

The Todber Park is set in the lovely Ribble Valley countryside overlooking the famous Pendle Hill and with fantastic views over the Ribble Valley. This is a great location as it is only a short drive away from the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, the Trough of Bowland, Gisburn Forest, Skipton and Lancaster. On site is a bar and a family room with occasional entertainment, an outdoor children's play area and football field.
Limefitt

Limefitt Park is in the Lake District near to Windermere - it is set in the beautiful Troutbeck Valley and is the ideal location for people who like walking and climbing.

The park facilities include an adventure playground and the Lakeland bar .
Seaside

Hawthorne

Hawthorne is a small park near to Middleton Sands, in Morecambe Bay. .
It is ideally located for Morecambe. Lancaster or Heysham. The facilities consist of a small friendly bar.
.
A very private and relaxing little park.

Regent

Regent Leisure Park is walking distance from Morecambe promenade and beach.
The facilities there include an indoor swimming pool and sauna, outdoor sports arena and indoor children's play area.
A great site for children.
Ocean Edge

This park is close to Heysham on the shores of Morecambe Bay , it is set on cliffs overlooking the Irish Sea.
The facilities include a family beer garden, café, indoor heated swimming pool and sauna, soft play area, family cabaret lounge, bowling green, shop, over 18s bar and amusement arcade.
Another ideal location for children.

Marina

Marina Park is a lovely little park set in between the Lancaster Canal and the Lune Estuary on the shores of Morecambe Bay at Glasson Dock, the small, friendly park is only 4 miles from Lancaster and 8 miles from Garstang. The facilities at the park are an owner’s lounge bar and an indoor swimming pool there is also a bowling club and golf society, which owners can join.

This park is ideal for relaxing and has plenty of easy walks nearby.

OWNING A HOLIDAY HOME

If you want to make the investment of holiday home ownership there are certain things that you need to know first. Apart from the initial cost of purchase (ranging from £9,000 - £195,000) there are also annual running costs to consider.
These include site fees, local rates, gas and electricity and insurance.. These figures vary from park to park but the staff at South Lakelands Parks are always very helpful and let you know the exact details.

On our park we pay around £2,300 per year for site fees, £230 for local rates - the gas and electric naturally depends on usage, insurance is around £350 per year.

SUBLETTING

If you purchase a holiday home with the intention of subletting it to make money you have to realise that South Lakeland Parks only operate this scheme at the following parks - White Cross Bay, Limefitt, Fallbarrow, Regent and Ocean Edge.

The other parks are kept for the owners to give them privacy and relaxation. In the parks mentioned above, when you are not holidaying you can use the South Lakeland Parks rental scheme and let your holiday home to help cover your running costs.

HOLIDAYS

South Lakeland Holidays is the holiday home rental division of South Lakeland Parks and offer holiday breaks at White Cross Bay, Limefitt, Fallbarrow, Regent and Ocean Edge. They have brouchers and offer holiday breaks including a 'try before you buy' break to see how you adapt to the life.
HOLIDAY HOMES

Holiday homes are available both new and second hand and start from around £9,000. South Lakeland Parks are very good at finding the right home for you and we found them very helpful when we purchased ours. Anyone who hasn't been inside a static caravan for a few years will be astounded at the changes. They are beautifully fitted and come with fridges, freezers even washing and dish washing machines.

LIVING IN YOUR HOME

The holiday homes are what they say - for holidays - this means that you cannot live in them. Having said that you can spend ten months of the year in the park and are an ideal British base for people who live abroad. Our park closes on 2nsd January until 1st March - some of the parks are open for a couple of weeks longer.
There is a great family feeling on the parks, they are well kept and managed and very secure.

So if you are looking for another home from home, I would really recommend it and South Lakeland Homes.

A wonderful relaxing life can be yours with one of these homes
