On arriving at South Shields I met my sister and followed her into the town centre, as I don’t know my way around ... ...a five-minute walk away from South Shields Metro Station, at the heart of the main shopping area in South Shields. We parked our cars in a car park about a 2-minute walk away from the museum (the parking in this car park cost £1.20 for up to two hours).

Advantages: It is not a well known tourist place so the price of accomodation remains chea. Disadvantages: It is a little cold, take some thick pullovers.
...), it covers a huge area and in summer is lovely to walk through or just sit by the lake and watch the swans.
Southshields has a Roman fort which is very interesting in a historical point of view, when it was first discovered it was only the size of a single room, now it covers the area of half a football pitch, well worth a visit and it is cheap to get in too.
SouthShields has a huge market on a Saturday and a Monday in the main market place, if you ever wanted to get a bargain then this is the place to go. It makes Brick Lane market in London very exspensive.
There are many other things to see and do in SouthShields which you can get information about from the tourist information or the local museum which is also the home to the Catherine Cookson Country Collection as she a SouthShields girl.
