--- I would like to add that I put my faith in SWT to upgrade their network over the next thirty years and let's hope that the 800 new trains are deliveres. ---
I looked at my train yesterday. I looked at it again. Judging from its age and state, it could have been one that's been delayed from 1965 - it had definitely never been cleaned since then, anyway.
I arrived at the station. So I went to the ticket counter: 'Can I have a ticket to Waterloo, please?' 'Ther' ya gom ma'e. Tha'ss £4 please.'
Well, you either had to ask him or the ageing machine which breaks your nails when you push the buttons.
So there we go. First thing, poor service. But no doubt I'll come back to that later...
So after around 20 minutes waiting in the cold - the waiting room was closed - and after forming a ten centimetre icicle on the end of my nose, the train finally arrived. So I eventually thought I would be able to sit down somewhere warm.
Then I heard the man on the announcement. Oh dear. I was on the wrong train. So I got off before I'd even got on, and went back to the cold. The man at the desk had pointed me to the wrong platform. Never mind. After all, I'd only missed three trains, and I only had to wait another half an hour for the next one.
So after 45 minutes of gazing at the information screen, seeing if it would say something about my delay - which in failed to, so you could call it an un-formation screen - my train turned up... ...eugh.
I put my hand on the door handle after admiring the flaking paint pattern that was attached to the side of the carriage. I would have done closer if it wasn't for the layer of mud and muck in general.
So I climbed in. And it stank of boiled cabbage. I sat down. Chewing gum stuck to my bum. The carriage was cold. Not surprising if you consider the force air and windows were open. I would have shut the windows, only the mould on them put me off.
Poor show, SWT. You sent me to the wrong platform, froze me to death, made me late, made me stink of cabbage, stuck gum to my bum and half deafened me. This is supposed to be England - we're supposed to good at things. Definitely not recommended by me.
Oh, I forgot the one advantage: Get's you from A to B... if you're lucky.
A fellow sufferer from Guildford. Do you think it will ever get better? I used to commute to school in the 1960s and was astonished on returning to SWT that they still use the same coaches!
