Well, what can I tell you about Southampton. I have lived here all of my 27 years of life and what can I say.... I am still here.
I don't think there is anywhere else I would rather live within the UK (except perhaps Bournemouth but it is so close that it doesn't really make much difference).
Shopping - There are 3 Mall type shopping areas in Southampton centre - The Marlands, The Bargate Centre and the new West Quay Development. The first two are small shopping areas with various shops. However, West Quay covers a huge area and a a massive variety of shops from cloths, shoes, jewellery, cosmetics designer shops, food shops and there is a food court so you can stop for lunch etc... There are also many other shops outside of these malls in the main centre of town and also lots of larger warehouse type shops the other side of the West Quay development.
Nightlife - There are so many pubs, clubs, restaurants, cinema, bowling venues etc that you wouldn't run out of things to do. There is everytime of restaurant I can think of within Southampton. Oxford Street has a large range of restaurants as does Town Quay, and Bedford Place. The centre of town if full of bars and there are also a good selection of Restaurants here. Leisure World is a new complex which has a IKON and DIVA nightclubs, ASK pizza and pasta, Frankie & Bennies restaurant, Jampin Jaks, Hotshot sports bar, a also a ten screen cinema. Just outside there is also a very large Grosvenor Casino.
Southampton is also so close to the New Forest which is beautiful at any time of the year. Bournemouth is also very close.
Overall, I would definately recommend Southampton as a place to visit or live.

hey nice concise op, i live close by in Portsmouth (although not from Portsmouth origonally) and get over to Southampton quite often as its much better for shopping. I've never been there for a night out as yet but definately intend to sometime as Portsmouths nightlife is definately lacking.
I agree with you about bournemouth too :-) Rob.

Nice start, but you need to add more about things such as accessability, eating out, tourist attractions etc. If you edit let me know and I'll gladly re-rate as you have the basis of a really good op. Cheers Marc

I'm writing a novel based in Southampton and I was expecting a nice long, detailed op :0( You need to write more for a better rating. I live in Poole, not far from Bournemouth.
