Under the Spell of PortAventua at Halloween
Advantages: A park that really gets into the 'spirit'! Disadvantages: Many of the special attractions and events only run on weekends
Halloween at PortAventura My partner and I have recently returned from a trip to PortAventura where the Halloween season had just begun. We have been to the theme park a couple of times before at other times of the year, and having already visited Disneyland Paris during the same period I was interested to see how PortAventura compared. As the park and it’s rides have already been reviewed elsewhere, I’m only going to cover the Halloween events in ... ...better existing travel links. PortAventura was created as a response to this disappointment. The park was opened in 1995 but the name has been modified several times as ownership changed hands. It has grown into a complete resort comprising 4 hotels, a beach club, water park, convention centre and golf course and it appears further development is planned, perhaps a ‘City Walk’ style area with shops and cinemas. The park is most famous for it’s six ...

Enjoyable, entertaining... Great!!
Advantages: Enjoyable, interesting, not expensive. Disadvantages: Too many steps.
Just by chance we decided to drive from Seville to Cádiz, the neighbouring town.
Just by chance we found this old tower from the eighteen century, above which, we discovered a little treasure.
Not only the views were amazing from the highest point of the oldest city west Europe -something, by the way, I didn't know-, but inside a little dark room a nice surprise awaited us.
A simple screen, a tube and a mirror, gave us the chance to take a look ... ...monuments and history.
However, the biggest appeal of it all was the presentation, a kind of performance led by a tourist guide -I should say an actress- who made me laugh to tears. Nice people from Cadiz, that was the real discovery. Had a great time there.
The show is led in several languages, although I'm not sure which ones, but english and german for sure. We paid €4, and had to climb a lot of steps (I was told they were 160), but it was worth ...

Stingray wreck
Advantages: Not that far from UK Disadvantages: Weather meant cancelling a couple of dives
Just returned from diving in Tenerife, with the Tenerife Dive Club, which is a dive centre in Silencio which runs both PADI and BSAC courses.
We had planned on taking in 6 dives over 3 days, but the conditions put paid to 2 of the dives (rough sea/poor viz).
The diving in general was very enjoyable, helped by the very friendly staff at the dive centre, and the other divers we met. The highlight (for us) was a dive to a site called El Aquario. Rolling ... ...small wreck, which was home to literally dozend of stingrays, and a couple of moray eels.
We had taken some fish to feed the rays, and this was an incredible experience. Once they realized we had food, they were all around us waiting to get a bit of fish.
These incredible animals seemed to be everywhere you looked, and I can honestly say that this came a very close second to diving with dolphins in Eilat a couple of years earlier.
Once the supply ...

Fuengirola Zoo - A Fantastic day out
Advantages: Beatiful settings, beautiful animals, interesting Disadvantages: N/A
Fuengirola Zoo is not at all what you're expecting. It is so much better than that. The word "Zoo" certainly has negative connotations for many of us, small cages, mistreated wildlife living in conditions which are totally alien to their natural environment. I am happy to say this is not true of Fuengirla Zoo. Easy to find and well sign-posted from the main bus station Fuengirola Zoo is a tucked away jem waiting to be discovered. With levels of interest ... ...their "natural environment". Fuengirola Zoo was an amazing day out, the walk around the zoo was beautiful with plenty of places to stop and relax in that spanish sun, with play-areas for children. Each enclosure has signs informing the visitor about the animal, and explaining how the area was created.
I get the impression that this zoo will improve and imporve and i sincerely hope i get the opportunity to revist at some point in the future. Your ...

a little surreal, but worth a visit.
Advantages: visually stunning, will keep you entertained for hours Disadvantages: none
...didn't really interest me) and Dali wasn't really my cup of tea. So wasn't really looking forward to it to say the least.
Anyway, a 2 hour coach ride later and we arrived in Figueres along side one of the strangest, yet at the same time probably one of the most intriging buildings I have ever seen. From what I could see of it it was a dark slmon pink in colour and covered in what I can only describe as yellow blobs. At one end it has a tower and ... ...the Teatre-Museu Dali.
Salvador Dali was a surrealist. Surrealism is an art movement in which the mind is supposedly liberated and so the unconsious mind can be used along with the dreamlike state gained in order to create images etc that are truer than reality or more than real. So some of the works of art may look a little strange and you have to use your imagination.
The Teatre-Museu Dali is certainly unlike any other museum I've ever visited, ...
