A real taste of Spain
Advantages: Off the beaten track. Close to Portugal and Seville Disadvantages: English not widely spoken. Not much to do apart from sunbath
(HOTEL REVIEW FOR HALF BOARD [Breakfast and evening meal])
Me and my other half fancied a sun holiday abroad (well more her than me), having spent the last two years doing the English resorts. We made a check list of things we wanted and then went along to our local holiday hypermarket. The checklist of what we wanted was as follows:
1. In the Algarve.
2. One week all in for £1000 for both of us.
3. Hot
4. Close to the beach.
5. Fairly peaceful.
... ...drunks spewing up everywhere. And we wanted to know we were abroad.
Unfortunately everything in the Algarve (Portugal) either didn't fit the bill or was too expensive. So the Holiday booking agent came up with a compromise in Spain (I was quite willing to go off and look elsewhere, but Cathy was eager to get something booked [she doesn't think I can make a decision]).
So having looked at the Catalogue we plumped for the Confortel, Islantilla. This ...

A MODERN AND EXCELLENT HOTEL NEXT TO A ROMAN CITY
Advantages: Excellently equipped and good service, close to the city. Disadvantages: Lack of restaurant
...worth a visit.
APARTHOTEL CIUDAD DE LUGO
The hotel itself, I believe, is a modern hotel, established in 2004, and is situated approximately 50 yards outside the Roman wall. It is also situated approximately 5 minutes away from the nearby hospital and the university. The hotel has 39 outward facing rooms with combined sitting rooms, and kitchenette areas. The rooms, as do most hotel rooms these days, also have a television, telephone, internet ... ...The hotel has a cafeteria / snack bar, but no restaurant, although there are two restaurants nearby whereby the hotel has a special arrangement. ROOMS
The hotel itself has various sized rooms to accommodate different sized parties. The room that we had was not the largest, but did have a kitchenette and sitting room and a bathroom.
The kitchenette was very well equipped and spacious, with everything one could need for a sort stay. Items ...

2 STAR HOTEL THAT SHOULD BE FAR MORE
Advantages: Excellent value for money and extremely clean and tidy Disadvantages: Slightly to far to be able to walk to city centre
...ones that had vacancies, the hotel rooms were very expensive. Luckily, one of the hotels recommended the Hotel Santa Lucia on the outskirts of the city. At first, we thought it would not be good as we didn’t really want to stay on the outskirts as we would have preferred one in the centre so that we could visit all the attractions on foot without having to rely on the car, but as we could not find anything central, we decided to go to the Hotel Santa ... ...hotel itself is found on the Santiago – Orense road, very close to another major road – the A9 La Coruna – Vigo. It is approximately 13 km from Santiago de Compostela Airport (roughly a 15 minute drive).
*
In reality, although it is situated on the outskirts of Santiago De Compostela, it is very close to the city, approximately 3 km away, and roughly 5 minutes travel in a car, but even this distance could make it too far to walk into the centre ...

Sol Timor Hotel - Great Location and Great Value
Advantages: Location, Price, Staff Disadvantages: Not the height of luxury
...simply log on to the Sol Melia (the international hotel chain) website - www.solmelia.com - and see how easy it is. There's a menu for entering your date of travel, party size and preferred location (with an option for entering specific hotels) and then it returns a list of rooms available and their prices. Simply select the one you want and enter your credit card details. They don't take payment there and then (you pay when you check out of the ... ...are two buildings at the Sol Timor and if you've ever stayed at a Sol Hotel before, you'll know exactly what to expect. They're exactly the same as all the others - tiled floors, large open spaces and thousands of rooms! You aren't getting luxury, but it is more than adequate for somewhere where you want to spend most of your time on the beach catching rays. -The Rooms- There are lots of different types of rooms - from family rooms that accomodate ...

A Palatial Hotel fit for a Queen
Advantages: A wonderfully characteristic hotel Disadvantages: None
...very easy to find.
The Alcazar de la Reina Hotel is situated in the heart of the old town. It's not hard to find as it's more than adequately signposted, but it's still a bit of an ordeal driving to it. The old town was not designed with the automobile in mind (in fact I doubt whether the wheel was even invented when much of this place was built!) and you must negotiate a torturous and convoluted route through the incredibly narrow streets and lanes ... ...be quite hair-raising - I don't have much hair so I was alright.
When we eventually cleared the claustrophobic streets, we found ourselves at one of the highest points of the town with a car-park and small mirador at one side, and a magnificent, restored former palace at the other. Surely this impressive building couldn't be our hotel?
A quick double-take confirmed that indeed it was.
Although it dates from the 17th century, the building was totally ...
